There is a serious and extremely urgent need to increase African communities resilience to extreme weather. We got early warnings that we would get heavy rains and even then, no measures were put in place to protect the people. We. Need. To. Do. Better.

This is the situation in Elwak. Homes submerged, lives disrupted—this is the reality. 26,011 families in parts of the North Eastern region (Wajir, Garissa and Mandera) are now grappling with the harsh impact of floods, leaving 13,473 displaced. Kenya Red Cross teams are on the ground responding, attending to the immediate needs of those affected including provision of shelter, essential non-food items and water, sanitation & hygiene services.
