.@vkoganpolisci was @USCPrice to give two @PIPECollab talks last week — on the electoral power of teachers and on his book, No Adult Left Behind. Terrific visit! And thanks to @mattunrath for providing comments on Vlad’s paper.

@SeanGailmard Is there a Gailmard formal model brewing on this?

True at national level but not sub-national. Failed governance can -help- progressives at state/local level, because it drives voters who aren't ideologically aligned out of their jurisdiction. Easier to win in ideologically homogenous electorate that will tolerate poor governance as long as you are anti-fascist.
But that creates a pipeline of candidates who haven't done anything, which is a problem nationally.

Progressive governance failing in every city is a huge long term liability for Democrats

If you *only* used SAT to admit to elite colleges, share of admits from top 1% income falls 15.8% → 9.9% and representation from <$200k rises by +8.8%, with no reduction in post-college outcomes.
It's 'holistic review' and 'ban SAT' policy that allows the most wealthy and powerful to virtue signal while getting an edge.

Highly recommend @KelseyTuoc's piece on the UCSD remedial math scandal
She focuses on the fact that most of these students were getting good grades in math in high school. This is large-scale educational fraud and the kids are the ones paying for it.
