This year’s #HistoriskeDage have wrapped up, including several Poland‑focused sessions. 📜 Mariusz Kolmasiak from Royal Łazienki Museum spoke about Poland’s ties to 🇩🇰 Bertel Thorvaldsen, a creator of Warsaw’s well‑known monuments of Copernicus and Prince Józef Poniatowski. 🪨

This week, an event was held dedicated to Steen Andersen’s book exploring declassified Cold War plans – including hypothetical Warsaw Pact scenarios of a Polish attack on Denmark. Thankfully, these plans never came to life, and today 🇵🇱 and 🇩🇰 stand as close partners and allies.

On March 12, 1999, Poland became a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation – a security community based on the principle of mutual defense.🤝 NATO currently has 32 member states, whose combined defense spending is estimated at $1.4 trillion. On the eastern flank, which includes Poland, there are currently eight multinational battlegroups. ⚔️ Together we are stronger – for the security of Poland and the entire Alliance.🛡️ Twenty-seven years in NATO means twenty-seven years of cooperation, solidarity, and shared security. ✨

March 1968 marked the peak of the anti‑Semitic campaign led by the communist authorities in Poland, forcing 13,000 🇵🇱 Jews to leave, over 2,000 later found refuge in Denmark. In marking these events, Head of Mission @EwaDebska_ laid flowers at the plaque recalling their arrival.

In the final item of the meeting, the ministers discussed the European integration of Ukraine. 🇵🇱 Poland consistently supports the enlargement of the European Union – a geostrategic investment in the security and prosperity of all Europe. During the discussion, it was highlighted that: 1️⃣ the greatest challenge to the credibility of 🇪🇺 is the blocking of the formal negotiation process with 🇺🇦 and 🇲🇩 by a single member state 2️⃣ opening Cluster 1 “Foundations” with 🇺🇦 and 🇲🇩 and starting formal negotiations is more important today than ever 3️⃣ the Polish Presidency of the EU has initiated technical negotiations with 🇺🇦 and 🇲🇩

The next topic of the informal meeting, attended by Deputy Prime Minister @sikorskiradek, was security guarantees for Ukraine. The discussions covered: 🔹 an assessment of the ongoing peace talks 🔹 the need for a long-term European strategy towards 🇺🇦 🔹 🇵🇱 involvement in the Coalition of the Willing 🔹 Operation “Legio” – 🇳🇴 participation in training the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 🇵🇱 territory 🔹 defense cooperation and the role of 🇪🇺 in the security guarantees system Representatives of the member states of the Council of the Baltic Sea States emphasized that strong and credible security guarantees are an essential element of future peace agreements.

The discussion titled “NATO Summit – on the way to Ankara” opened the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. 💬 The discussions focused on transatlantic relations and the role of NATO as an effective tool of deterrence and defense in response to the threat posed by Russia. In the context of the Summit in Ankara 🇹🇷, participants underlined: 🔸 the need to increase defense spending 🔸 a fairer burden-sharing arrangement 🔸 maintaining strong support for 🇺🇦

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs @sikorskiradek officially welcomed all participants of the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. All members of @CBSSsecretariat are present: 🇵🇱, 🇮🇸, 🇸🇪, 🇱🇻, 🇱🇹, 🇩🇰, 🇳🇴, 🇩🇪, 🇫🇮 and 🇪🇪 and 🇪🇺 represented by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy @kajakallas.  This is the first in-person meeting of Foreign Ministers in the history of the CBSS held outside the regular calendar, delivering on one of the priorities of the Polish Presidency – intensifying dialogue at the high political level.
