Lech Wałęsa has been recognized in Strasbourg as one of the inaugural recipients of a newly established European Union distinction. The award, introduced by the European Parliament last year, is intended to highlight individuals who have made notable contributions to European integration, democratic development and shared values. Wałęsa was among 20 figures selected for the first edition of the honor. He is best known for leading Poland’s Solidarity movement in the 1980s, which became a driving force behind the opposition to communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe.

A remarkable medieval discovery has been made in the heart of Gdańsk. Archaeologists excavating the site of a former castle uncovered a well-preserved 13th-century tombstone marked with a Latin cross, likely still resting in its original location.
