@BryanBaugh Being a mature horror fan is recognizing that Wolfen was always meant to be a cosmic horror film, not a werewolf flick.

Oh… Wolfen.😒 I saw this movie on HBO a couple years after it came out. So probably 82 or 83. Being a kid and hoping to see another great early 80s special effects creature (the early 80s was a golden age for werewolves and special effects creatures after all) - the minute I saw they were just using a normal, actual wolf and calling it a werewolf - this movie had committed an unforgivable sin in my 10 (or maybe 11 year old) mind and was immediately cast out, into the nether regions of “lame” for all time. Haven’t seen it since. Over the past 40+ years, whenever this movie has come up - in conversation or online or in a book, or whenever there was a rare opportunity to rent or stream it - I always go through the same thought process: I should probably give that movie another (fair-minded adult) chance. …But I already know it doesn’t have a cool werewolf. So what is the point. And I move on. Yes I know that is unfair. But those childhood grudges are stubborn. And there’s so many other movies to watch and so little time…

Finally watching Wolfen (1981) and loving it so far. Super gritty procedural, forgot Gregory Hines is in it!

"First Blood" was published on this day in 1972. The spectacular debut novel from @_DavidMorrell (my favorite author), it was truly revolutionary in the thriller genre. In many ways, Morrell's novel lifted the action book up to its highest pinnacle here. Decades later, "First Blood" is still king of the mountain. I'm frequently asked what my favorite book of all-time is. The answer never changes. It's this one.

@DisgracedProp Yes, a diagnosis like Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD) is just a collection of differing symptoms that can be attacked in a number of ways that doesn't require a brain altering SSRI. But Big Pharma would make no money from those interventions.

Doctors are really the worst class of people in contemporary life. I spent first 20ish years of my life with severe chronic health problems, life threatening asthma, stomach issues, allergies etc etc. In the hospital and constantly seeing doctors, always prescribed various pills and sprays to take every day for the rest of my life. They uniformly SWORE up and down that if I didn’t take my asthma inhaler my condition would worsen. And of course they were uniformly completely wrong. What I realized over time was that the single cure to all of these conditions was to forget they existed. Just find a way to distract myself and have fun, stay in the moment, and, with practice, they slowly but surely all went away. Solution to 95% of these supposed chronic health conditions, particularly these newly discovered ones, is to rest, have fun, relax the mind, relieve stress by getting stuff done, and resist the urge to intervene medically. The profit motive for chronic condition treatments means overwhelming inertia towards intervention. Fresh diseases with new names are literally advertised to you on TV. Humans are incredibly gullible when it comes to their health. Most doctors will chop you up and use you as a drug guinea pig before ever telling you simply to relax. When I see people taking this pill and getting that surgery for fibromyalgia or arthritis or Crohn’s disease it’s so obvious that they’re being duped. There’s no cure to any of this stuff because they aren’t diseases. The body is always suffering from something, healing something, getting inflamed, asking for rest. That doesn’t mean you take expensive pills for it every day for life. You should really almost never trust one of today’s doctors, unless in true emergency situations when western medicine still really works.

Examining Kate’s 1% She has suspected endometriosis. This affects at least 1 in 10 women, likely more. Here she’s getting an ultrasound. Historically you needed surgery just to diagnose it (incisions are made in the abdomen). We're doing a non-invasive route. Typically women live with endometriosis for 7-10 years before being diagnosed. It’s the leading reason women aged 30 to 34 get hysterectomies (permanent surgery to entirely remove the uterus). This condition is where endometrial-like tissue starts growing outside the uterus, in ovaries, bowel, bladder, even the diaphragm. This tissue inflames, scars, and glues organs together. Our first step is to find out if @_katetolo has it. Initial measurements we’re doing: + trans vaginal ultrasound + pelvic MRI w and w/o contrast + hormonal labs All during the early part of her cycle to get the clearest picture. During her ultrasound, a slim probe, about the width of two fingers, 10-12 inches long (although only a small portion is inserted) is covered with a protective sheath and lubricant and gently inserted into the vagina (patient has to empty their bladder first). This creates real-time images of the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures. While inserted, the probe is turned 90 degrees to evaluate all the various structures, angles and views. There is no radiation exposure. The technician is looking for scarring, ovarian cysts, adhesions, and for organs that are fused together with tissue. This ultrasound can confirm endometriosis but it cannot rule it out. What endo does to the body: + 90% report pelvic pain + 50% report severe fatigue + 26% report infertility. However many sources cite 30 to 50 percent. + 50% experience pain during sex. + Many have pain with ovulation, bowel movements, and urination + Severe bloating called “endo belly” where the abdomen visibly distends There are a handful of theories about why endometriosis develops but the honest answer is no one is quite sure. We’ll keep you posted on her results.

American boomers are quite possibly the least frugal cohort of people in human history, and it's hilarious that they like to pretend that they were anything but. They frequently confuse themselves and their accomplishments with their parents, who were a frugal generation.

I’ve never been “stranded” in my home before. But I guess that I’ve never travelled to a foreign country and used a temporary visa to commit immigration fraud, so maybe things work a little differently over there.

🇮🇳🇺🇸 We hope that these H-1B delays and these disruptions will be addressed by the US. There are several Indians who have been stranded in India for an extended period of time. These have also caused a lot of hardships to their families. - Indian Ministry of External Affairs

I'm always learning amazing things on here. Like how the horror genre is a socialist psyop
☠️James🖤Horror👻@jamesxhorror

@Howlingmutant0 I don’t think the vast majority of horror creators are putting out films promoting racism, sexism, transphobia, religious extremism or anything but a socialist agenda. I think it’s actually the complete opposite on the whole. You’re absolutely entitled to that opinion too. I do
