@Helen_Fields As someone who has visited the battlefields depicted in the series, the locations for filming were spot on. Especially the crossroads episode.

Rewatching Band of Brothers. And yes, filming specifications have moved on as have effects, but dear God, the acting is sublime. Damian Lewis in this is an absolute bloody master.

@HustleBitch_ Looks like the officer was waiting for a better lit and more populated area to pull the car over. I don’t know this area at all, but the road looked pretty dark and desolate before the stop.

🚨 HIS WIFE WAS FOLLOWED BY COPS FOR 20 MINUTES AT 2AM - SO HE FOLLOWED THEM BACK She just got off work. It’s after 2AM. She notices a patrol car sitting behind her and it doesn’t leave. No lights. No siren. Just trailing her turn after turn for twenty minutes straight. She calls her husband and tells him she feels unsafe. So he doesn’t just stay on the phone. He drives ahead of them, parks and waits. On camera, you see the patrol car pass with his wife still in front. He pulls out and follows them. Moments later, right before she’s near home, the red and blue lights flip on. After twenty minutes of shadowing, that’s when they decide to stop her. He walks up filming and asks, “What did you pull her over for, ma’am?” It’s all on video. Be honest, if your spouse called and said a police car had been trailing them that long in the dark, what would you have done?

@infantrydort Grunt here - on my deployment e7 and above got one for participation. But grunts that crossed the wire daily were overlooked. Not saying I deserved one, but I saw many men that did. As a result, I see a bronze star and think handout. They really watered down a prestigious honor.

Leaders need to stop gate keeping awards. We should never be denying awards based on rank. Let me give you an example: Meet my one of oldest and closest friends James (Jimmy) Ruane. Son of the famous American Jockey John Ruane (a big name in the 1950s). He joined the Army as a cook in his 40s and was one of the smartest and most capable Soldiers I ever knew. He joined me in the famed 101st Airborne Division in 2010. When I was a pre-command captain working as the operations officer for 2-502 Infantry, we had a brand new blimp with a camera on it which we were going to use to hunt insurgents and kill them. They were crawling around Zhari, Afghanistan back then. We needed an operator for the blimp and somebody recommended Jimmy…. a cook. Once I met him, I understood why. This guy was SMART. Smarter than me. Hell, smarter than everyone in the battalion. He figured out how to hunt bad guys FAST. 18 hours a day for 15 months, this man found bad guys and we killed them with our symphony of assets. Our little HQ tent got mortared many times. Folks died right outside frequently. Our tent riddled with shrapnel holes. We had to jump the HQ often because the Taliban got good at dialing in their 82mm mortars. The COP also got attacked directly and Jimmy would have to toss on his gear and help the defense. This was not a normal “FOBBIT”. He was directly responsible for the death of over 800 insurgents (yes I said 800). So I put him in for a Bronze Star (Meritorious). I figured hey, if the officers who are literally pushing paper are getting one, why not him? It was denied because he was only an E4. Too low ranking to deserve it apparently. I got one though. He always joked for years after to me “How’s my bronze star you’re wearing!?”. He was always humorous, but you could tell it bothered him. And it f**king bothered me too. Fast forward 13 years, he died. Broke, alone, an alcoholic, depressed, and had PTSD. Fighting with the VA for benefits. It wasn’t a suicide, his heart just gave out. To this day I always think what one simple piece of cloth and metal would have done to change the outcome of his life. Maybe nothing. Maybe everything. Miss you brother.

The EBT discourse is funny because I constantly hear, "You don't know what it's like!" When I was 22, I had a good job and was laid off with no notice along with about 30 others. I applied to countless jobs, and no one was hiring. I got a full-time job at a warehouse and a bouncer job at night. I worked seven days a week. It wasn't enough to pay the bills, though. I went almost a year with the electricity getting shut off every other month. No cable, and the internet was shut off for three months. The fridge? Pretty much empty. My girlfriend at the time used to bring home food from the bar she was a waitress at, as they'd let the staff have it. We lived on egg noodles and butter with garlic salt. We turned the oven on and left the door open to heat the apt because we couldn't pre pay for oil. I could have fixed it easily. I could have applied for EBT, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I would have felt ashamed. I didn't come from poverty. My dad would have paid all my bills without thinking twice. I never asked because I was ashamed of failing. I never told him. I suffered and endured until it got better. There's no more shame. Everyone is just owed the money in their minds. I watch a lot of these videos, and all I can think is, "Wow, they're living pretty good. A phone, electricity and an internet connection?" People are angry at them because they think it's deserved. It's infuriating to people who struggled before just to exist. So, that's why we don't care.

@BelAves @EchoesofWarYT I’m not here to argue Lee was the greatest general. Rather the logic being applied to judge him. Lee was loyal to his state, as was commonplaces in that period. Has nothing to do with treason.

@Jason_R_Burt Lt. Speirs did shoot and kill a SGT in Normandy. Confessed to Commanding Officer. However, commanding officer was killed, incident faded away. Not enough space here. Do search for entire story. Killing POWs, some say didn’t happen.

@9mmsmg NOLA is just a sad shame. Even as u described it, 15 years ago it was still a decent visit. Now it’s piss, puke and weed. U no longer hear local jazz guys playing on the corners, they’ve been replaced by kids banging on Lowe’s buckets.

Ranking the worst cities in the USA. #1 Being the worst. 1. New Orleans- Whole city smells like piss and puke. The local population borders on being severely cognitively disabled. My least favorite place in the country. 2. San Francisco- Self explanatory. 3. Memphis - Crime ridden hellhole. Can't understand a word anyone says, similar to NOLA. 4. Houston - See Memphis. 5. The entirety of Mississippi. Half the population can't spell the state. 6. St Louis - Trash city, high crime. 7. Chicago - Streets like a Baghdad war zone when the weather is nice. Would be higher but there are some legitimately nice parts and things to do. 8. New York City - Self explanatory. Once again, would be higher but there are nicer parts and the best steakhouses in the country are there. 9. Baltimore- Self explanatory. Would be higher up but Maryland has some nicer areas. 10. Miami - 10000 degrees, filled with weirdos and annoying people. Now be upset if you live in one of those places. Just my personal experience.

Spend the money. Get a Sleep Number. Just get a mattress without all the heating/cooling/adjustability BS…all you You’ll have one hundred different firmness settings to adjust to your sore/aging/injured body. I bet they’re under 5K now. Paid 6k almost 10 years ago and it’s probably a very basic model now. Sometimes I go to bed early because my BODY wants that bed. Good luck.
