The problem isn’t with allowing the homeless to live in our public spaces, the problem is they are allowed to do whatever they want within that space. If anybody reading this who is not homeless, did the identical thing in a public space they would he fined and/or arrested.

Oh, look at this steaming pile of Democrat fan fiction from the Tina Kotek propaganda machine. Cute origin story. Too bad under your watch, homelessness exploded 35% since you became governor. More tents and human wreckage on Portland streets than actual residents in some towns. You declared a “state of emergency” on day one and just kept re upping it like a bad Netflix subscription year three now, with over 27,000 homeless counted and Portland’s numbers spiking even higher. Billions flushed, tent cities legalized, addiction and mental illness enabled, not treated. “Working for a Better Oregon”? More like working for open air asylums and fentanyl playgrounds. Invested in public schools? Oregon’s schools are still national punchlines for failure chronic absenteeism through the roof, test scores in the toilet. You and your Sacramento style legislature poured money in while chasing every woke fad. Results? Crappy. Parents know it. Kids are paying for it. “Nation’s strongest abortion access law”? Congrats on turning Oregon into an abortion destination while families can’t afford rent or groceries. Priorities, 100% clean electricity? Your green zealotry and clean fuels mandates are jacking up utility bills and energy costs for working families the very people you claim to champion. “Path to 100% clean” sounds noble until the lights get expensive and unreliable. Classic lefty: feel good policy, painful reality. Landmark minimum wage, paid sick leave, paid family leave? Yeah, and how’s that working out with the highest individual tax burden in the nation under your leadership? Businesses fleeing, jobs evaporating, cost of living crushing everyone. Raising the wage floor while inflating everything else and taxing the hell out of productivity is not “helping working people” it’s economic malpractice. Oregon’s economy is lagging, construction slumping, and you’re still out here bragging. “Rising cost of living” and “Trump’s tariffs”? Spare me the scapegoating. You’ve been in the legislature and Speaker/Governor for years this mess is yours. Canceled some tolls and called for a tax pause? After years of piling on regulations, hidden taxes, and anti-growth insanity that made housing unaffordable and streets unlivable. Portland homebuilding at lows not seen in 15+ years. “Lower utility bills”? With your climate agenda? Laughable. Affordable childcare and drugs? While core costs skyrocket from your policies. The Trump Derangement highlight reel: Resisted Trump’s illegal attempt to deploy the Oregon National Guard”: Translation: Portland was (and is) a disaster zone of crime, open drug use, and chaos, but heaven forbid actual law and order from feds when your soft on crime approach turned it into Lord of the Flies. “Putting all of us in danger” by enforcing immigration law? No, Governor your sanctuary policies and refusal to back cops put communities in danger. ICE “gone too far”? Enforcing borders isn’t extremism; ignoring them while fentanyl kills and gangs operate is. Fought back and won” on SNAP benefits Sure, court drama and emergency declarations to keep the federal spigot flowing. Meanwhile, the underlying dependency and poverty machine you helped build rolls on. “Hard working Oregonians”? Many are, but your governance rewards the opposite. Tina, you’re tireless alright, tirelessly doubling down on the same failed progressive playbook that’s turned Oregon into a cautionary tale. Highest taxes, exploding homelessness, failing schools, businesses eyeing the exits, and endless culture war distractions while basics crumble. “Won’t stop fighting for Oregon’s future”? The future you’re delivering is more tents, more needles, more excuses, and more blame on anyone but the one party monopoly that’s run this state into the ground. Oregonians aren’t buying the glossy brochure anymore. The results are in the streets, the bills, and the polls. Time to face reality instead of this virtue signaling word salad. Fire. This. Failure. Funny enough we just had similar happen in Bend, OR, but the developer did a very high end complex, received over $10 million in tax breaks, and cut the affordable housing section down to 2 units. People have very right to be skeptical as developers and government are 2 of the shadiest groups out there. Best part is, they are 75% vacant after overpricing their places for a year plus.
Multifamily Madness@MultifamilyMad

A developer in my market requested a tax break to build a mixed-use project on land that’s had several vacant, falling apart homes sit on them for years looking like a major eyesore. They offered in exchange for the credit a percentage of the apartments on the project to be affordable. Pretty standard stuff, nothing out of the norm. The locals absolutely lost it. “If they get a price reduction on taxes, then so do I!” “Double their taxes just for asking”! People really need to be educated. So you mean to tell me you’d rather look at several houses (on a commercial street) collapsed, than have more housing to help reduce housing costs and more retail/commercial which will help your community grow by creating jobs and more development. Not to mention the taxes this developer would pay are still 50x what the property taxes on the vacant land and dilapidated houses was. What these people don’t understand is a developer is not going to take tens of millions of dollars of risk and not take a profit/payday. Also the credit is necessary due to the labor and material costs to construct anything. NIMBY people are very short sighted. It’s one thing if they are knocking down peoples homes or building in a residential area but these are collapsed homes on a commercial corridor.

We have a public safety crisis in Oregon, and this is partly due to police shortages in our major cities. Portland recently ranked 47th nationwide on police staffing. This report has our police staffing levels at 1990's numbers, despite Portland's population DOUBLING since then. If we want to make Oregon a safe place for families to thrive, we need to build up our law enforcement.  zurl.co/mU4HB

I’m standing in Eugene, Oregon — a city with the highest homelessness rate per capita in the United States. While Congresswoman Val Hoyle has accumulated extraordinary wealth during her three years in Congress, the neighborhoods she represents have fallen deeper into crisis.
