Portland Fire & Rescue’s Community Health Assess and Treat (CHAT) teams work hard to de-escalate situations over the phone and in-person to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits for minor medical issues. I was honored to spend an afternoon chatting with them about the endless ways they help our community. Watch this video to learn more: youtu.be/wFVty-Z8icE

Nothing about this Iran deal is a victory. Thirteen soldiers and thousands of civilians are dead. More than $100 billion of taxpayer dollars wasted. Months of record gas prices. Trump is claiming victory over Iran—for accomplishing less than the nuclear agreement he ripped up in 2018. This is a moral outrage and utter foreign policy failure. The world deserves better. nytimes.com/2026/06/19/us/…

Today we honor Juneteenth, which marks the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the nationwide emancipation of Black Americans. This Juneteenth, we are celebrating Black resilience and joy. We recognize the structural racism that helped build our nation endures today—and we must work tirelessly to overcome and dismantle these oppressive systems. That includes protecting the right to vote, which generations of Black Americans have fought and died for. Trump and Republicans are making it harder to access the ballot box, particularly in Southern states where racist redistricting is diluting the Black vote. We won’t stand by. We are fighting back, for justice and equality for all.

Pressure works. Three days ago, I joined lawmakers pressuring the White House to stop its plan to dismantle a $368 million ocean monitoring system that is CRITICAL to understanding climate change and marine ecosystems, including right here off the coast of Oregon. Today, Trump backed down. We will not stand by while this administration dismantles the science our communities rely on. Stay loud.

14 years ago, President Obama announced the DACA program. It provided hundreds of thousands of young people the opportunity to live, work, and pursue their dreams in the U.S. I am proud to stand with my @HispanicCaucus colleagues to reaffirm House Democrats’ support for Dreamers — even as the GOP continues to attack law-abiding immigrant communities.

We should all be able to agree that the people and organizations dedicated to protecting children deserve the space to do their work without interference. Federal agents attempting to conduct a warrantless search of KIND and other advocacy organizations that serve immigrant children is a blatant attempt to intimidate them out of their critical work. It is cruel and unacceptable.
KIND@supportKIND

On June 11, federal agents visited KIND’s DC headquarters without a warrant in an operation targeting legal service providers for unaccompanied children. Our work to support due process and protect the most vulernable will not be intimidated. 🔗: supportkind.org/press-releases…

I was honored to celebrate with the Jefferson High School community as ground was broken on this historic, overdue, and critically important investment in our youth and our community. Jefferson High School's legacy is uniquely relevant and inspiring—the students who are welcomed into this new building will know that our community understands the importance of this place and the students who will grow its mark for decades to come. I am honored to represent this community and look forward to cheering on future Demos in their gorgeous new school.

If there was ever any doubt, this article should put it to rest. The White House is leading a massive cover-up of the Epstein files, with JD Vance holding meetings in the Situation Room to hide the abuse women and young girls endured. It’s repulsive and egregious.    For every survivor—we MUST hold the Epstein class accountable. nytimes.com/2026/06/10/mag…

This administration has treated children with disgusting cruelty and callousness. After seeing it up close, I had to take action. The Dignity and Due Process for Children Act will establish a floor of legal protections every child in this country should expect. This is a floor. A starting place. We must pass this legislation now. No child belongs in prison, and until this is the law of the land, we must ensure their most basic rights are protected. CHILDREN must be protected, not treated as criminals.

Today, I led the @HouseDemocrats in wearing orange to honor Hadiya Pendleton and every life stolen by gun violence. Orange was Hadiya's favorite color, and now, it's a bright beacon for gun violence awareness. We owe survivors more than thoughts & prayers. We owe them action.

I've seen firsthand how Trump's immigration policies are traumatizing children, all funded by our tax dollars. Babies are being kidnapped. Elementary school children are being sent to court to face judges without the protection of a lawyer. Families are being removed from our country using the force of the U.S. military. It has to stop. That's why I introduced the Dignity and Due Process for Children Act. My bill is a floor, not a ceiling, to keep our kids safe. Watch to learn more.

Congratulations to the remarkable Reynolds High School students who have overcome enormous odds to earn a spot at the National Speech and Debate Tournament! They deserve our community’s deepest respect—under the coaching of Valerie Schiller, these youth created a team, won competitions, and then, with the support of their community, raised the funds to get themselves to the tournament. This is a story of grit, intelligence, and commitment that we should all feel extremely proud of. I am honored to represent you in Congress, and I will be cheering you on every step of the way! oregonlive.com/education/2026…
