If Southampton were expelled, the only eligible finalist left is Hull City. If Middlesbrough were given a retrospective win because of the spying, then every other fixture affected by Southampton’s spying would also have to be overturned. So which is it?

@secondtierpod If Southampton had not been caught, they would’ve 100% spied on Hull before the final. And if they had been caught then or after the final, they obviously wouldn’t be allowed to go up if they had won. Therefore, Hull would go up automatically. So should happen anyway. UTT

If you are a true football fan and not these plastic ones who flood socials for engagement then unless there is undeniable evidence a team has manipulated the result of a match the result should still stand If you lost a semi final you don’t get to play in a final

#spygate I’m far from convinced that Boro should be replacing Southampton anyway. Boro lost and have left the tournament. Therefore, if Southampton get kicked out then surely Hull get a bye in the Final and go straight into the PL?

The only reason I can think of as to why Tonda hasn’t been sacked is the compensation. Club are probably waiting for the FA to ban him, therefore removing that compensation. #SaintsFC

I still haven’t had an answer to the question of why spying is worse than, for instance, intentionally fouling high up the pitch to prevent counterattacks as a premeditated tactic. I’ve heard variants of: 1) Rarara I hate Southampton hahaha you’re out. (Fine, but not an argument) 2) Shouldn’t have cheated then! (Doesn’t address proportionality) 3) Fouls, diving etc. are dealt with in-game (obviously not enough to discourage it which was the main argument for the prosecution in the Saints FC case). 4) How can you compare it to a dive or a foul? (I’m talking about a premeditated strategy involving intentional rule-breaking). 5) Spying gives you a huge advantage, bigger than coordinated, intentional fouling or injuring opponents. (The likes of Shearer, Murphy, O’Hara and Cundy who have played the game at the highest level have come out and said it would have made a minimal difference). I’ve accepted that Saints fucked around and found out, and all associated within the club need to go, but until I get an answer which lies outside one of those 5 listed above, I’ll be of the opinion we’ve been treated very harshly with a completely disproportionate punishment. This *is* the footballing equivalent of the death penalty for shoplifting - and if you’re a Saints fan reading this, bottle that sense of injustice inside, make an absolute racket at Saint Mary’s next season - and you watch, teams will crumble against us as they’ve always done, and just like #Boro and even #Arsenal did on the pitch. #SaintsFC #Spygate
