@POat_probation

I’m a long serving senior probation officer with an opinion. Views are my own. Retweets and likes does not mean endorsement.

@IainDale Have they learned nothing from the spectacle of his failed attempts in Gorton and Denton and his excruciating book launch? The guy is a laughing stock.

EXCLUSIVE: I understand from sources close to Reform UK that senior party bigwigs are planning to parachute in Matthew Goodwin to fight Rupert Lowe in Great Yarmouth at the next election. That would be quite the spectacle to watch. Knowing Great Yarmouth well, I have to say I am not wholly convinced Goodwin would go down well there. Bring out the popcorn!

From probation to vetting, the pattern is the same: Romeo drives through disastrous reforms, then presides over systems concealing or downplaying failure. Yet this is eho Starmer is clinging to as a supposedly “safe pair of hands” at the top of the state. *Ruinous judgment*. 5/5

If you want to understand the Mandelson vetting scandal, start with Dame Antonia Romeo. Starmer’s “fixer‑in‑chief” already helped drive the disastrous part‑privatisation of probation – a reform so bad it had to be ripped up at huge public cost. 1/5

@NotThatBigIan @AnthonyGlees I saw this debacle at first hand. It was : “Minister we have a great idea to rid ourselves of lefty probation officers & chaotic offenders & enrich private companies “ “ Great, crack on & have a gong, a pay rise & a new title”

Don’t all UK PMs ‘cling to power’? Is it fair to blame Romeo for the disastrous privatization of our Probation Service? Surely not. She simply executed what Chris Grayling had instructed be some. He was the disaster as we all know.

Great to catch up with my friend @JDVance today in DC following his talks in Pakistan. It is vital that the ceasefire continues and we get shipping flowing freely again through the Straits of Hormuz. We continue to work together towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

So the Green Party want to open borders, make drugs legal & abolish prisons! Wow. I genuinely think you need to be missing your marbles if you vote for this.

I have huge respect for Angela Raynor & her achievements. But what on earth is she playing at ? At this time of crisis ? Or is her "leadership" bid a media confected rumour driven by headline chasers.

Another thing that I love about my adopted country: For the most part ya'll have enormous common sense. (When that goes off the rails, it's OFF).. Most folks know that #Brexit was the biggest self-own and self-downgrade re: any major nation- in history. Insane & ideological.

With Rachel Reeves telling The Economist she wants closer alignment with the EU, our most recent data found 54% of Britons support rejoining the EU, and 62% support a closer relationship short of rejoining Results link in replies

The Mandelson-Epstein scandal is an utter embarrassment for our country. It has weakened our global standing and undermined our relationship with our most important ally, the US. Read my article in the Express here 👇 express.co.uk/news/politics/…

I usually go to the polling station with my partner. My adult children came too when they lived at home. Was that "family voting" or absolutely fine because we're White skinned and not Muslims?
