In 1996, NYPD Officers Eric Ocasio and Charles Claudio rescued a mother and her two small children from a burning car on 116 Street in Harlem. One of the children rescued was Dennise Gomez, who is now herself an NYPD police officer serving in the @NYPD90Pct. Today, the three reunited for the first time at One Police Plaza. In recognition of their special connection, I was honored to present Dennise with shield number 15417 — formerly worn by Police Officer Ocasio. May their special bond grow even stronger!
