Working today due to an overflow of patients and here is a very important case: 👉 49-year-old old previously healthy man who ends up with #NSTEMI. Cardiac cath is negative, he is discharged on a beta blocker only. 👉 Following this event, he developed daily symptoms of headache, paresthesia, presyncope, dyspnea and fatigue. 👉 I asked him if he had Covid in the weeks preceding this: sure enough he did - about 12 weeks before the heart attack. 👉 I reviewed all medical records, including from a university hospital in the South ➡️ no mention of #COVID_19 or post-Covid conditions anywhere. 👉 Treatment of this patient did not include any management of #LongCovid and post-Covid cardiovascular conditions. What do we learn from this case? 🫀 Cardiovascular, autonomic and neurologic manifestations of #Covid are widespread and are often not recognized or coded as such ➡️ will not be tracked in the electronic medical records. 🧠 People are having heart attacks, strokes and blood clots at a young age, which are not counted as post-Covid sequelae ➡️ thus, the real incidence and prevalence of Long Covid and post-Covid conditions are largely underestimated. 💊 Patients are not started on aspirin because "there is no blockage in the arteries," but many patients are in hypercoagulable state (his d-dimer on admission was high) ➡️ at least a daily aspirin might be beneficial ‼️ #LongCovid is a major public health issue that is under-reported, under-counted, under-recognized and under-treated. #MedTwitter #CardioTwitter #NeuroTwitter

In children and adolescents, consequences of undertreatment or no #treatment of #hypothyroidism in children are poor growth and development, poor performance at school. These may be reversible in children and adolescents if hypothyroidism is treated early with #levothyroxine.

🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️Why do we need a strength training awareness day?
Myself and the strength training academic giants before me have found that -
1. The general public are mostly unaware of strength guidelines and what ‘counts’ as strength training (our science communication needs to improve in this area, @jacksonfyfe has a newsletter and @mackinprof is prolific on social media to help in this area)
2. Some exercise instructors are also unaware of guidelines and how important progressive strength training is for all ages and abilities (@BexTownley and @LaterLifeTrain are working on it)
3. Not all health care professionals feel confident or comfortable discussing the benefits of strength with patients (clinical exercise physiologists @csep_scpe @ClinExPhysUK @CEPAupdates could play a BIG role here)
4. There is room for improvement in the implementation, sustainability, and scale of evidence-based progressive strength training in community settings (projects @STARTwSTRENGTH and @STRONGERaHOME are looking to help here!)

I think citizens ought to be very concerned over the appointment to NHSE Board of Mark Bailie (-career of senior leadership in banking, financial & digital services) who worked alongside the NHS on setting up NHS TEST and TRACE during the pandemic! A £37 billion dodgy disaster.

How can this be right? NHSE Board is full of bankers and people with a secondary care background. No patient rep, no primary care rep, no social scientist, no anthropologist etc etc. Leadership body for most expensive public service deserves much much more balance.

ChatGPT just made a diagnosis that 17 doctors over 3 years couldn't make!
A tired mom with a child with a rare disease started entering his symptoms into ChatGPT, which gave a diagnosis for this patient.
She took that information to a neurosurgeon who confirmed the correct diagnosis. This shows the power and the potential of AI, but of course there's still so much work that needs to be done.
These exact algorithms are being utilized by @EveryCure to unlock the full potential of existing medicines, to find treatments for diseases that don't have any.
