What a banger ER for Viavi, +27% this morning. $VIAV is PPLong's second largest holding at around 12%. As @stocktalkweekly said yesterday , Viavi is the tollbooth for network testing across Ai, telecom, cloud, enterprise, military, aerospace, and first-responder infrastructure. In other words, no matter who wins or loses the network deals in these spaces, Viavi will collect a toll from them come testing time. That's an automatic win.

Thinking about $FOUR and founder @rookisaacman as a result after the recent Artemis II mission. Jared's doing a spectacular job marketing @NASA at a time when America needs reminded of the American Dream's fullest manifestation — not to mention the value of NASA itself. Kudos, Jared.

PPLong's Top Trend I'm watching: The literal 'network effects' of AI technology as it radiates out in the build cycle — speeds and feeds (optical carriers and technologies) — decentralization / edge (the products, chips, etc that are bringing LMs closer to our devices, faster)

PPLong is +14% over 1 month, +32% YTD, +143% 1y. What we're owning now: DC/power bets: $NBIS 14%, $IREN 7% American AI buildout, both Arizona based: $AMKR (semi packaging for $TSM and others in US) 14%, $VIAV 10%(network testing) — both of these are H/T @stocktalkweekly

PPLong portfolio's 1 year performance through 15 April 2026: +144% The indexed world: around +35% ...so we're 4x'ing over a year. Pretty respectable but will do better now that we're going to bring some options exposure in for the first time. Will stay no margin, and commons will always be 90%+ of the non-cash investment pile. Oops. Next post will be some themes and faves.

Thought experiment: how do you get from here to UBI in an Ai took all the jobs scenario? We have a K-shaped economy, and wealth is more concentrated than it's ever been. What tax policy can be taken that doesn't increase the share of taxes taken from the wealthiest? Put differently, if we end up needing to do UBI in America, where do you think that money will have to come from? And do you think our wealthiest 10 or 20 citizens will hire the rest of us to do whatever we want, or do you think it'll require government to step in and collect that money for UBI, or some other approach?
Paul Graham@paulg

Larry Page is gone. He wasn't just pretending to move to Florida. He has moved. The proposed wealth tax hasn't even passed, and already it has cost California both Larry's presence and all the tax revenue it made from him.

...Yet it's still the wrong criteria to use. Taxes are as much about (whether we like it or not) creating desired outcomes as they are about funding government. I'll say it again: $NET is dead easy to use with Claude Code etc. They're not going to zero, and if anything I think they're set to go to the moon once valuation settles in line with market expectations. I'm dropping everything in Cloudflare right now.
PP Longport: your favorite thematic asset manager@PPLongport

Bothers me when investors don't understand cos like $NET well. If you think the Cloudflare is a security company, well sure that's correct. But Cloudflare is also the co that normies like me are using right this moment to deliver Claude-originated apps, without a single manual step.

We're in a weird spot. Everyone in deep in the Ai vortex, making stuff, is blown away and we know it could absolutely take out all of incumbent SaaS. And it's happening while everyone is questioning the cost and value of what's being built. Feels like a double negative whammy for stocks in these spaces and massive jitters as a result.

Folks, please don't build bots that automatically reply to stuff on X, or use AI to reply. It makes this site annoying to use, I can barely keep up with the blocking. If you use AI to "tweak" your real replies, it will still smell like AI. Embrace typos and imperfect grammar.

The migration of billionaires also signals broader wealth flight concerns, which could impact California’s high-end real estate, philanthropy patterns, and even political dynamics. At the same time, Florida benefits by attracting skilled, capital-rich individuals who may invest locally and influence tech and business ecosystems. Imagine having all software engineers to hold real estate market solid and steady. Impossible.
