I talked to a former Conservative MP who served with Marilyn Gladu and they told me they were "not surprised" by her crossing the floor. They said that Gladu has always been an "attention seeker" and that she is likely not running for re-election and wanted to get back at Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party for a perceived lack of favour in caucus including not being a prominent speaker at the 2026 CPC convention in Calgary. The MP did say too many MPs with difficult personalities have been protected from nomination challenges over the years and have developed a primadonna complex about how important they think they are, and what they deserve. Sounds like d'Entremont, Jeneroux, and Gladu. The "where is my golden throne!?!" mentality. Although the MP also warned some people in caucus also do think there needs to be adjustments when it comes to which MPs are given prominence and which ones are not. It's a delicate balance of not letting BIG egos demand attention for the sake of it, and also making sure grassroots Conservative MPs aren't overshadowed in favour of people seen as part of an inner circle around Pierre Poilievre.

It’s time for the conservative MP’s, who have been approached by the Liberal Party, and chose not to defect, to disclose what they were offered.

@marysed11 @jillyonthehilly Listen...the guy just faced a review...and passed with a 90% grade. Since then one nutcase MP has decided to cut bait. And all of a sudden it's time to dump him? How do we let this LPC/MSM narrative take root I wonder?

@jillyonthehilly It's not about his leadership. It's about the VOTERS being betrayed. A poll is not an election. An election is an election. What is it you people don't understand?

Poilievre is slamming the PM, accusing him of making backroom deals to force a Liberal majority But with four Tory MPs now having crossed the floor, and polls showing CPC support trailing the LPC by double digits, Poilievre's leadership is facing some tough questions #cdnpoli

@wyatt_claypool You should read what this guy writes. It's pretty scary. He says he's organizing the floor-crossings because the interest group he's representing wants to get rid of Pierre. He said he will cross MPs until Pierre resigns. He also said they'll start doing the same thing to Smith.

I have talked about potential issues inside of the CPC caucus and how management theoretically could be better if the reports of certain frictions are true. At the same time why don't these floor-crossers come out and do a tell-all interview describing the problems? They seem to never say anything but vague praise of Carney or like d'Entremont just say the CPC should "look inward." Almost like they don't actually have much to hit Pierre with or whatever the caucus problems are it isn't just the dumb "Pierre bad" narrative and would not make the crossers look good if the story of the issues were told.
Gator⚡Gum@gator_gum

Is there a single conservative thinker on this app that thinks that the MPs leaving the CPC might have at least something to do with Poilievre's leadership? I mean, you have to at least consider that, no?

Elections are irrelevant if you focus more on the rights of MP’s who willingly and deliberately took a role to serve their constituents over the rights of voters who trusted them and voted for them for a reason… IE: the party platform they represented. If you do not want to work in a position where the will and desire of the people you represent matters more than your personal ambitions… get a job at Winners like a normal person.

Ultimately, this is how our system works: Floor crossing protects the MP’s mind, elections protect the voter’s will.

@EcoFashionByBG @Harry__Faulkner Politicians of all stripes are simply a microcosm of society. And society today has a higher percentage of slimy people than every before. So it should come as no surprise that slimy traitors abound in Parliament. Sign of the times folks. Not all that complex.

Pierre Poilievre comments on the floor crossing of Marilyn Gladu: "I feel badly for Ms. Gladu's constituents, the strong majority of whom voted for our Conservative vision of an affordable and safe Canada." "I believe that constituents in her riding and every riding should be able to petition for a by-election whenever a member of parliament changes parties."

@gator_gum Oh well, if polls are definitive and represent reality why bother voting? It would be less expensive to just conduct polls and whoever gets the highest poll wins the riding 🙄. Seriously how are you so stupid? 🤦🏼‍♀️

@PRstevejones @KatherineC36178 @junonewscom Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if maybe 30 or 40 more crossed. I'd rather the liberals have a slim majority but if they have 5-10 more crossers, they might as well take ALL the rotten ones so we're only left with the good ones and rebuild by adding tens of good ones next time.

Liberal MP Chris d'Entremont, a former Conservative, on floor crossings: "They [the Conservative Party] seem to be blaming others... and not looking inwardly." "We want Canada [to be] in a better place… you can't do that from the opposition backbench complaining all the time."

@KatherineC36178 @junonewscom That's actually the salient issue here. What if they all just decided to cross the floor? What if they all decided to be spineless slugs...because no one paid attention to them? Serious question? Where would that leave us? Here's an idea...let's ask Carney if he wants them all.

@EcoFashionByBG @MinorityFinge Stick a fork in it. The Canada we knew...or any semblance of it is gone forever. Even if the gov't changed tomorrow. The deadbeat culture is so ingrained in our bureaucracy, media, courts and The Senate it would take at least 2 generations to turn it around. That's best case.

@Concern70732755 I hope not. Poilievre is not the problem, Carney is. A couple more years of Liberals destroying our culture and our economy and even the dumbest Liberal is going to have to start questioning their choices…

Were Canada to ban floor crossing, we would be suppressing the individual minds of those we elect, and further concentrating power in party leaders. As things stand now, floor crossing protects independence and keeps pressure on leaders to treat their colleagues well lest they watch those colleagues head elsewhere. Floor crossing – and the threat of it – protects us from a system where those we elect turn into mindless drones serving nothing more than the centralized will of ‘the leader.’ So, whether you agree with Gladu’s decision or not, it is essential to protect the right of MPs to cross the floor. The individual mind is the most precious resource we have.

Within less than 12 months of the election, @CPC_HQ @PierrePoilievre have lost 4 MPs to floor crossings & their new communications director has quit. Things seem to be seriously awry in the party. The leader needs to answer to the party’s supporters. Will he?

If @MarkJCarney can attract the likes of very "Blue Tories" like Marilyn Gladu into the Liberal fold, then every Conservative MP is on the table. I must say, as an intimate observer of Canadian politics and someone who has closely watched dozens of party defections over 20+ years, I find the Gladu defection to be nothing short of stunning! Ms. Gladu is not a Red Tory; she's a conservative's Conservative and won her Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong seat by nearly 12,000 votes a year ago in a very tough election for her former party. In the previous two elections in 2019 and 2021, Gladu won her seat by massive 15,000-16,000 vote margins with *the NDP placing second and the Liberal Party an extremely distant third* I hail from southwestern Ontario, and my Mom was born and raised in Gladu's riding; while it Sarnia-Lambton may have once been a bellwether riding, it has been the personification of "conservative country" for more than two decades now. That Gladu saw appeal in @MarkJCarney's leadership and the direction of the new Liberal government speaks volumes. If Carney can attract Conservative MPs like Gladu, no Conservative MP is safe! #cdnpoli

@Pagmenzies @cbcwatcher @RichardHanley4 We need to stop blaming the dirt-bags in this gov't and the spineless dolts who can't cross the floor fast enough to join them. It's time Canadians took a long look in the mirror for showing even a scintilla of support for this low life. How in tf did we get here. Shame on us.

Nothing to see here people "The office of the federal ethics commissioner says Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne’s personal relationship with a senior manager at the Crown corporation responsible for building high-speed rail does not constitute a conflict of interest. In an email seen by CTV News, an adviser from the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner (OCIEC) stated that “there is no risk of conflict of interest and that a screen is not required.”"
