1865 - Jean-Baptiste Lolo (also known as Chief St. Paul, Chief Lolo, or Lolo), a prominent Hudson’s Bay Company interpreter, trader, and Secwépemc (Shuswap) leader, posing with his Secwépemc wife Marie Lolo (Mrs. Marie Lolo) and two of their daughters (he and Marie had four daughters and seven sons total). It was taken at Fort Kamloops (Thompson’s River Post) in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, in front of the log cabin built for Lolo by the HBC. The photographer was Carlo (Charles or C.) Gentile, an early itinerant photographer active in the region. Lolo died in 1868; he is remembered as one of the most influential Indigenous spokespeople in 19th-century British Columbia, and geographic features like Mount Lolo and Lolo Creek are named after him.

I have to confess this. Indigenous organizations at this point, are doing more harm to indigenous-Canada relations than almost any other organization. It’s Indigenous organizations calling people racist, denialists, white supremacist monsters. Not individual First Nations people. The only ones that do worse is provincial and federal governments. I can’t see how communications like this improve things between everyday First Nations people and everyday Canadians. This type of approach just makes things worse. How you could write that email, and claim to be about “reconciliation” is beyond me. How people can behave like this, and act like they’re on the moral high ground is also beyond me. I feel like all I do lately is talk about the problems, and the nonsense but I feel the obliged to comment to show this is no reflective of Indigenous people and that nonsense should always be called out.

War sucks. People do bad things. There are no good sides in a war, you just have to pick the best side. Israel and the world keep offering peace deals to the “Palestinian” people. “Palestinians” won’t accept anything but destruction of Israel and annihilation of Jews. Israelis, on the other hand, want a peaceful Western style democracy. In Israel, 20% of the population are Arab Muslim. In Gaza, 0% of the population are Jews because in 2005 all the Jews left Gaza. Katie - We all admit residential schools were problematic. We just don’t agree they were genocidal machines controlled by evil demons who killed thousands of children just for fun. We want freedom of speech to be able to talk about what really happened based on recorded history and anecdotes from people still alive today who have good things to say about residential schools.
