@RevDrHorne The church does not value or train people in relationship, maturity, belonging or empowerment skills so when life gets stressed clergy don't operate from their best selves.

@PTSDVicar @PhilipProudfoot @nomhossain And what does any of that have to do with what this person is saying? He is literally saying that Ukraine should just do what Russia want to end the war. That is literally no different to saying stop fighting in ww2 because it would end the war.

@newtons1988 @PhilipProudfoot @nomhossain No. The point is european history is complicated. Bolsheviks hated the Ukrainians and tried to wipe their history; crimeans and eastern ukrainians speak Russian, USA did a coup. You guys knowingly provoked Putin. Who himself is inexcusable and has wiped out much of Ukraine.

@PTSDVicar @PhilipProudfoot @nomhossain You’re making excuses for the invasion. I am pointing out the stupidity of this person saying that because the war has gone on for 3 years Ukraine should give up and let Russia have what they want. It’s literally identical to should the allies have given up 3 years into WWII

@newtons1988 @PhilipProudfoot @nomhossain No.its completely different. I am no fan of Putin- a gangster (or USA and the CIA coup) and the Russo/Ukraine history is complex back to the Bolsheviks. But look up the time it takes to get from Kursk to Moscow and you will see why Putin hates the idea of NATO in Ukraine.

@PhilipProudfoot @nomhossain So by your logic shouldn’t we have just let the nazi’s have control of Europe in 1942? Why both fighting them for another 3 years when we could have just given up early and let them have what they wanted

@jgj1972 @afneil If Ukraine wants to make concessions to end the war, nobody can stop them. If Russia wants it to end, they could simply withdraw. It's up to those two countries, nobody else. If the US no longer wants to fund it, then just stop funding & walk away, no need to dictate terms.

So why is Trump trashing Ukraine’s elected leader and its democracy? I suspect he wants voters to think there’s no real difference between Kremlin and Kyiv. So when he comes up with a peace deal that sells Ukraine down the river it will be easier to defend. It’s a miscalculation. If Trump scuttles from Ukraine then it will be to him as Afghanistan became to Biden — an ignominious retreat/defeat from which his reputation never recovered.

@You___Rang @jgj1972 @afneil the problem however much we loathe Putin, he realistically fears being invaded through the plains. Look up the mileage from Kursk to Moscow. The pentagon and CIA love "an uprising" so you don't want to reward Putin but he wants to secure his security. Its a long game since 1992

@jgj1972 @afneil No..Russia needs to withdraw. The land is Ukraine’s, not Russian. Anything else is a capitulation and only encourages yet more Russian aggression, towards their next target.

I think about this twice a day. Every morning when I sit down to read & again when I begin to work, I say to myself, “Accept the initial agitation.” When you try to focus, Andrew Huberman explains, “the brain circuits that turn on first are of the stress system.” Meaning: “The agitation and stress that you feel at the beginning of something—when you’re trying to lean into it and you can’t focus: you feel agitated and your mind’s jumping all over the place—that is just a gate. You have to pass through that gate to get to the focus component.” There’s a common misconception, @hubermanlab continues: “the misunderstanding around how these brain circuits work has led to this idea...a kind of obsession with the idea that we have to feel good in order to be productive.” “And nothing could be further from the truth.” The truth is it’s the reverse: we have to be productive—we have to start working, we have to lean in and get going, accepting the initial agitation—in order to feel good. So along with “accept the initial agitation,” sometimes—when I don’t feel especially good, motivated, interested, or energized—I say to myself, “Forget how you feel right now.” “It will feel good,” Huberman says, “but there’s a whole staircase in which it feels kind of lousy...The early stages of hard work and focus are always going to feels like agitation, stress, and confusion.” “Remember: there’s a gate of entry. You have to wade through some sewage before you can swim in clear water. That’s the way I always think about it.” - - - “Mood follows action.” — @richroll The clip below is from Andrew’s 2020 interview on Rich’s podcast (youtu.be/SwQhKFMxmDY)

@MaryOToole10 @kayaburgess @pborocathedral There is only one category of people who give lots of their money to Christian churches - thoroughly converted, practising, believing Christians. If the Church of England needs more money, it should focus on making more of them.

Big news for us as a diocese. Bishop Alan was my suffragen bishop in Shropshire where he "took a chance" on me there and now has been my diocesan bishop here in St Alban's. I'm thankful for @BishopStAlbans and hope you enjoy your retirement.

The C of E may have its troubles at the top, but at the sharp end things seem to be thriving. The church I went to this morning was standing-room only, and everyone belted out the hymns and carols with gusto. Friends tell me the same from their Christmas services.
