This is worrying “It emerged that Labour had warned in 2017 that Theresa May’s manifesto pledge to make the same cut would cause 3,850 excess deaths” What’s changed since that analysis? Has there been a new one? independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Ministers are wrong to say energy bills are decreasing for everyone this winter. For some pensioners, energy bills will be the highest they have ever had to deal with in real terms. This is solely due to the Chancellor's winter fuel payment axe. endfuelpoverty.org.uk/energy-bills-u…

Chancellor tells her MPs to blame Conservatives for her decision to raid Winter Fuel Payment bit.ly/4gbX4vD so she is blaming the party that in 2017 said it would do that but backed down when Labour said it would kill 4000 pensioners. Oh dear.

But there are 2 things government can do RIGHT NOW to show they listen to the electorate & won't leave the vulnerable behind this winter: 1⃣ Abolish cruel standing charges 2⃣ Begin planning a universal basic energy allowance to END fuel poverty energyforall.org.uk/manifesto.html

"Even if they do survive without ending up in hospital, that’s a horrendous existence, to stay in your bed for months under an electric blanket. That is not living.” We tell @IsabellaMcrae how axing winter fuel payments will cause immense suffering. 1/2 bigissue.com/news/social-ju…

Your Mum waits 40hours for an ambulance so BP don’t have to pay tax. Your kids can’t afford University so Amazon don’t have to pay tax. Your sister can’t get housing so Google don’t have to pay tax. Your Gran’s lost her Winter Fuel Payment so Vodaphone don’t have to pay tax.

"We've looked at the black hole in the public finances caused by the previous government - having treated the pandemic as a "shock doctrine" incident - looting the Treasury to give £billions to their mates. We have decided we will get that money "back" from the elderly, the poor, the disabled and children in case those fraudulent, corrupt b***ards leave the country if we put up their taxes".

Renewable energy is now so abundant and so cheap that it’s bad for business. This is a great case for treating electricity as a publicly utility instead of a commodity.
Gerard Reid@gerardreid14

It’s Crazy Sunday! This afternoon, #Europe will experience negative electricity prices from #Finland to #Lithuania, #Poland, and #France. Meanwhile, #Germany will see zero or negative wholesale #power prices for most of the day due to massive #wind and #solar production. Germany could generate up to 80 GW of #renewable power this afternoon, while peak #demand is likely to be around 50 GW. Germany can theoretically export the excess using its 27GW of interconnector capacity. However, with neighboring countries also experiencing large amounts of wind and solar production, massive #curtailment is inevitable. This issue is only going to worsen as we expand renewable energy capacity, particularly with #rooftopsolar, which the grid operator cannot control or switch off. Let’s assume Germany adds another 10 GW of rooftop solar over the next 12 months, bringing the total capacity close to 50 GW. If demand is around 40 GW early in the morning and the interconnectors are fully utilized due to current conditions—a major storm in the #NorthSea and clear skies across much of the continent—we face a significant challenge. Additionally, while there are many behind-the-meter #batteries, they are also not controllable, nor are the #EVs connected to the grid. How can we maintain #grid stability without significant #regulatory changes? And who is going to build new renewanble plants with massive risks of negative pricing?

#Energy costs are rising again, and are 50% more than they were before the pandemic in winter 2019. Over this period of crippling household bills, big energy companies have made billions of profit at our expense with the consent of government and @ofgem. Privatised energy has failed everyone apart from the shareholders. We say public ownership is the only way forward, and two thirds of the UK public agree - but @UKlabour won't consider it.

Energy companies continue to rake in obscene profits while working people struggle and pensioners shiver without their fuel allowance. These are the wrong choices when there is an overwhelming case for taking energy out of the hands of the profiteers. morningstaronline.co.uk/article/energy…

The head of Ofgem, which boasts its job is to protect energy customers, explains its increasing bills by 10% because it has to allow energy companies to make a small profit. Last year British Gas profits increased 10 fold to £750m.

Energy prices to rise by 9% this October. Just in time for autumn/winter when people turn heating on. If you don’t think this is contrived and deliberate by @Ofgem you need your head read. Energy companies making record profits while OAPs are dying from hypothermia. 😠

Electricity prices are lower than they were in 2021 before the 'energy crisis'. Bills were £1,050, now it is £1,973. They are robbing at least £923 more from every customer And they have the gall to say prices won't return to normal for a Decade They and Ofgem are the thieves

The wholesale cost of 1000kw is £60, you are paying £274. A mark up of 357%, before the Energy crisis this was about 100%. That is why your bills are so ridiculously high.
