@TheS_Resource Should be 100% on equal playing time for all. At that age, arguments around reduced playing time for players who've missed training are punishing kids for decisions made by their parents

@movementcoachkm The value of underage streaming in a sport where success at adult level is limited by what parish you were born in needs serious scrutiny

@mayofc_official Surely the lad from Westport didn't walk out on their set-up just to be u20s manager at Mayo FC? I'd always assumed he'd do the u20 job then take over the first team in the Autumn

@EBL2017 This is a low defensive line. However, the vertical compactness isn't bad (3 cuts of grass to use your measurement). A lot of space between the "pressing" attacker and the ball (2 cuts of grass) would imply they were sitying in rather than trying to press high

The distance from front to back is miles too much. Top line trying to get pressure on the ball with the defensive line low. It goes against all pressing principles. No problem maintaining a +1 in the defensive line, but vertical compactness must be respected.

@EBL2017 That's not a low defensive line given particularly given where the ball is, by any stretch of the imagination

Joelinton actually fails to control the ball in this moment but it allows us to see the distance from front to back for United. They are miles apart. United are trying to get pressure on the ball but are doing so with a low defensive line. It doesn't make any sense…

⚫️🔴 Eddie Howe completely OUTCLASSED Michael Carrick last night, with & without 10 men!! Newcastle destroyed United's diamond press over & over again. Newcastle force United to one side, Cunha collapses infield, Trippier is free & Burn switches to find the spare man. Coached!

@power_ray In connection to both, I'd love to hear how the culture initially created by SAF, when the squad was predominantly UK&I, was maintained / developed as the team and league became more multicultural?

@MayoSoccerPod Great podcast again lads. I think Conn B will be higher than predicted. Good first result against Fahy and the C team results in pre-season and in the first game suggest they have lads that are well able for League 1. I think Conn Rangers will have 3 teams in the league in 2027

@htomufc The "game" isn't about that. However, the finances involved, and the owners with no connection to the local communities, leads to a level of short-termism that means that the Premier League is exactly about that

Kind of a weird talking point for me this - I agree with Slot, it's not fun to watch. But at the same time, these managers & players are playing to win and to maximise the chance of that happening, they're taking advantage of the finest of margins. So, it makes sense why. It's not my idea of football, and I don't enjoy watching games solely based around the effectiveness of your set pieces, but for the teams who lean on them more often, it's effective and winning points; ultimately, that's what the game is about.

"Most of the games I see are not a joy to watch." 🗣️ Arne Slot isn't a fan of watching the Premier League 😬

Connacht Cup Champions and Mayo's only remaining team in Connacht Cup or shield have been beaten in the Quarter Final 1-0 in Colga, late winner for the Galway side. Was always going to be a very close tie.

@MartinMcc27 @TheS_Resource To be fair to the GAA, their rules are pretty clear in the Go Games ages. However, individual clubs / coaches, often choose to ignore these and then wonder why they have such a big drop-off rate

Nobody teaches you how to stand on a touchline. There’s no handbook for it, no course that prepares you for what it feels like to watch your child play or not play. Mark: “Which number’s your son?” Sarah: “The one on the bench, the one who never really gets a game, only when we’re up by a huge score.” Mark: “Ah. Well… it’s competitive, isn’t it? Best players play, that’s sport and life for you.” Sarah: “He trains every week, never misses and we only live five minutes away. All his friends are here, he doesn’t want to leave.” Mark: “If he’s good enough, he’ll force his way in.” Sarah: “He’s nine?” (A goal goes in. Cheers from the touchline.) Mark: “That’s what I’m talking about! Movement and desire boys! That’s how we WIN games.” Sarah: “He laid his kit out last night, couldn’t sleep. He adores this team, being with his friends but just wants a chance?!” Mark: “You can’t give everyone equal minutes. That’s not real football and we need to look after our best players before they leave. This league title is in our grasp, it’s ours to lose..” Sarah: “At this age, what is real football? A league table? A trophy in February?” Mark: “It teaches them standards, how to win, what’s sport if we don’t win? If you can’t handle it you need to find a new team.” Sarah: “So does taking part, making mistakes on the pitch instead of watching them from a bench and actually learning, don’t you think?” Mark: “Football’s tough, you need to find a B Team or find another sport maybe?” Sarah: “Life’s tough enough, this was meant to be the safe place.” (Pause. Her son claps loudly as his team score again without him) Sarah: “Look at him, still cheering like he’s played every minute.” Mark: “Maybe he just needs to be patient and grab his chance when it comes.” Sarah: “Maybe the adults need to be more patient and he’s only played 10 minutes this season, as he’s usually not picked to attend games.” (Final whistle. Players run off celebrating.) Sarah: When they’re sixteen, do you think they’ll remember today’s score? Or how they felt not being selected or just remember being sat on the bench?

@Tactx_ He never said that last bit, surely? Reminds me of the story (unsure if actually true) of Alan Ball going into the City dressing room and mentioning the fact that he was a world cup winner

‘I don’t know why’ Surely ask the decision makers for honest feedback? Although this won’t help. "I am ready and willing. I don't feel I need to sell John Terry as a manager or a coach or whatever that may be. If someone needs to win football matches, I'm not sure you're going to get anyone better. If you want to carry on losing football matches, then continue what you are doing."

@RobMcKay86 I think the problem is the list is neither a list of the best keepers to have played in the Prem or the keepers who've impacted the Prem the most. Ederson deserves to be higher on both lists but would Southall feature ahead of Tim Flowers on a list of 10 most impactful keepers?

Ederson’s placing on this list is laughable. The man not only revolutionised goalkeeping in this country but has 6 PL titles. The same as Courtois and Van der Sar COMBINED. Whilst undoubtedly a great goalkeeper Neville Southall’s best PL finish was 6th. Don’t get me started on Joe Hart’s exclusion.

There are many experts in the game Ray that site Fernandez as one of the top midfielders in the world at the moment. Let’s hope the turmoil that United is currently in doesn’t hinder his progress or recognition as such.
Ray Power@power_ray

@KingKnightEd He really has been terrific this season - even with all the structural things and changes he’s had to deal with In far from a United fan, but my respect from him has grown a lot recently. With Carrick stabilising his role we might even see him kick on again?
