“Why the heck are your clients’ hard drives in the parking lot for anyone to take…?!” On a not-so-recent trip to Denver, I was mixing a little work with personal (snowboarding of course) and dropped by an electronics recycler I’d been working with for a few years. Strolling through his scrap yard parking lot I noticed this travesty. I then greeted my friend with a warm, “Why the heck are your clients’ hard drives sitting in your parking lot for anyone to take?!” (Who knows how long they’d been there like that!) True story and, regrettably, they didn’t have a good excuse. Matter of fact, there's never a good excuse for data to ever be that close to a dreaded breach. This happens more often than I wish though. Businesses recycle their electronics with someone that makes their e-waste problem go away, but often without doing their data due diligence to understand if the vendor is "on their game." What does “on their game” mean though? It means a ITAD recycler: - has rigorous standards - are certified and audited - treat YOUR DATA and YOUR CLIENTS’ DATA with the utmost care Our suggestion? Know and vet an ITAD services provider that is NAID AAA Certified who will securely and quickly destroy your sensitive data — like they should! Oh, yeah — said recycler with the parking lot hard drives? They're no longer in business. PS – the content part of my brain was elated to witness this and take a quick pic so I could tell the story! 🤣

Little did I know that taking on a mild inconvenience Would be a significant competitive advantage A lot of electronics recyclers don’t like to mess with residential drop-offs So they don’t do them at all Or it’s not a smooth process But over the years we’ve gotten it dialed And our 935 5-star google reviews show it (And that’s what you’re seeing in this pic, 235 lbs of CRT’s for recycling) Those reviews are a contributing factor for showing up on the first page of google When searching for “electronics recycling” in STL Which has us so stoked because We’re convinced that the easier it is for folks to recycle The more they’ll want to do And the better we can leave our environmental legacy for generations to come Hope your Monday is off to a killer start!

Our crew recently took a break from hitting home runs to see the @Cardinals hit one of their own — and, yes, they actually won. It was a great chance to just kick it, since most of the time we’re “locked in” (as the kids say) and crushing it, with no end to the leveling up. This year we’ve spent a good chunk of time dialing in our systems and workflows, rolling out a new ERP (about 60% there), and adding a few new faces to the team. It takes a full crew to: * schedule your recycling pickups * prep all the needed equipment * do said recycling pickups * offload the truck * receive inventory in the erp system * sort inventory into scrap and resale * destroy data * refurbish resellable assets * list assets on eBay or wholesale * negotiate pricing * pick & ship assets * manage downstream scrap * track revenue * manage ops team * …and more And that’s just the basics—table stakes. It doesn’t even include admin, sales & marketing, leadership development, and all the other moving parts of running a business. Electronics recycling looks easy from the outside, but doing it at scale is anything but. It’s complex, essential, and absolutely worth it. We do all of this because we freakin’ LOVE doing good work and knocking it out of the park for you! It’s our joy to keep your e-waste out of the landfill, shred your data, contribute to nonprofits, and build a culture where everyone’s stoked to show up and throw down. Oh, random but kinda cool—we also got to meet the girl at Ted Drews who won the Ford Bronco at the Cards game. Way to go, Kelsey!

We rescued this NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti from the pile headed for recycling — and gave it a second chance at life. It came through our public drop-off in rough shape, covered in grime and mold. Most would toss it… but we saw potential.

With a little elbow grease, some TLC, and a satisfying sticker peel, we cleaned it up and got it ready for a new gaming rig. Hard to believe a $100+ GPU was this close to the landfill. Saving tech. Saving the planet. One GPU at a time. @PXS_ITAD

Look at this little cutie right here! An Achiever 2-Channel 5.5” Monitor (CRT) I’ve never seen a squirt TV like this before. And apparently neither had eBay, Grok or ChatGPT. But rest assured, the team at @PXS_ITAD is always checking for “value.” We never want to recycle electronics prematurely. Plus, one of the main revenue drivers for e-waste recyclers is refurbishing and resale. The challenge becomes figuring out “if the juice is worth the squeeze.” For every item sold there’s a test, list and ship process to it. It requires skill and time and space for each phase. We have to account for labor and shipping costs, as well as selling fees like eBay (around 13%, crazy!). This is what we do – all day, every day. Recycling and circularity is about keeping as much as possible out of both waste and recycling streams for as long as possible. We do this for you and for a greener better future. You’re the hero in the equation: U + PXS = ♻️ ❤️ ✨ 🌎 Thank you for doing your part and sending us end-of-life electronics!

It was brisk out and sunny as I looked across this scrap yard wondering ... "who's data is this ... ?" "I bet whoever recycled this thought the data destruction would be fast and secure ... " "How many other undestroyed hard drives could I find in this small mountain of e-waste ...?" To the untrained eye this looks like a pile of old computers. But a good technician would notice the visible hard drives right away. You see, it's not just *data* but it's YOUR data, YOUR BUSINESS' data, YOUR CLIENTS' data. I know for darn sure that you wouldn't knowingly trust this crucial step of end-of-life cyber security and data destruction with a recycler that's this careless. But it happens if you don't do your due diligence. My encouragement: work with a certified Electronics Recycler and receive a Certificate of Destruction for the data that's in the e-waste you send them! Happy hard drive shredding!

It’s a fantastic way to engage the circular economy and doesn’t only keep end-of-life electronics out of the landfill but also from being recycled prematurely. Our shared goal is to keep the most amount of electronics in use for as long as possible!

Yes, someone used orange tape and labeled the box, “mouses,” and Smith here is making the obvious obvious for us! By “listing” Smith means listing on eBay for resale. Refurbishing and resale is the main revenue driver for us at PXS and in most electronics recycling companies.
