The Taxes and Levies charged on fuel in Kenya constitutes about 80% of the actual cost of the product itself. The ripple effect of surges in fuel prices on overall market dynamics places an obligation on the government to make concessions, when necessary, to cushion consumers from global spikes in prices. While the reduction of VAT from 16% to 13% is one such concession, it is far from adequate in the grand scheme of things, considering Kenyans already pay the highest pump prices regionally. The increase announced by EPRA indicates tone-deaf leadership that ignores the plight of the people. This is when the role of our parliamentarians in representation and oversight must be activated. The pain of wananchi must never go unrecognised or unresolved.

It is actually a crime under Kenyan law for public officers to give false/misleading information. We have been told a bunch of open lies about the fuel situation with Ruto himself, as recently as 30th March, telling us his “strategic interventions”had “mitigated price increases” only to hit us with a 40 shilling increase two weeks later. Let me not even mention that “expert” or his string of lies. We are placing the pain at the pump squarely on Ruto.

Fuel subsidy scandal loading. We have fuel reserves and fuel in transit that was bought with lower prices. The Government of Ruto will subject the 350 million litres of fuel to a subsidy of about Ksh. 30 per litre and make away with Ksh. 10 billion. Watch out and see

The question that @EPRA_KE needs to answer. We have always been told the purpose of G2G is to cushion us from external shocks. Now our fuel has gone up because of the war Why did our fuel prices not go down when global fuel prices were at an all time low last year?

Diesel powers transport, food supply, and production, so this isn’t just a fuel story, it’s a cost of living story. When diesel rises, everything else follows VAT cut or not. Lets not get started on the next frontier which will be gas. Sigh

When oil was at historic lows of $67 last year, they refused to lower the prices and pass on the savings to us. Now, it's heading to $120 a barrel. And they are already asking us to swallow the pain through higher prices. Kazi yetu ni kumeza uchungu, na wao wakule mautamu.

DJs in Kenya will now be required to pay Sh20,000 every year to get a license. This license allows them to play music at events, clubs, and other public places, in a move to ensure artists are paid royalties for public performances.
