@RepJohnLarson All the money currently in the Social Security fund is held in the form of gov bonds and the gov is $39 Trillion in debt. Boomers telling us it is their money is a lie meant to make them feel better as they steal their grand kids money from them.

'DOGE' was never about efficiency. They want to steal your data and slash your benefits. That's what Trump, Musk, and the billionaires are demanding.   Social Security is an EARNED BENEFIT that YOU paid for. It doesn't belong to Elon Musk or any of his buddies on Wall Street.

@NeilAlan262 @RBReich Why (when they can afford to pay for their own retirement with their own assets)? You understand that all the money sitting in the Social Security fund is in the form of a government bond while the government is $39 Trillion in debt. It's not your money.

@Palmerizer2 @RBReich Consider money people have paid into Social Security or the benefits they are collecting & calculate the net present value of those amounts & pay them out as a lump sum to everyone. Then replace the Social Security system with the one that puts money into an IRA, not real estate.

Thanks to Trump's tax cuts for the rich, Social Security's trustees warn the program will be unable to pay out full benefits by 2032. There's only one way to reverse this trend. Scrap the cap on income subject to Social Security taxes.

@sbmalive @Acyn If CA has more people to vote, it has more people to count. And yes, cheaters do believe everyone cheats (its how they justify what they do). However, that doesn't mean honest people who have been cheated don't realize it.

Elias: Why does California have signature matching? They have it to satisfy the same right-wing zealots who claim there’s fraud, right? So they do this whole kabuki theater that takes all of this time in order to contend with the fact that people say that if you don’t do signature matching, there’s going to be fraud. And then they get attacked for taking the time to do that very thing. The fact that the New York Times thinks there’s a middle ground here… Here’s my message: I don’t compromise with Republicans because there is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist, and they are trying to burn down democracy.

So do you agree it would be better if they were able to invest their SS tax into their own IRAs, 401Ks, and homes instead of sending it off to DC and the SS fund to disappear? Would you say that would be a better way to go than you receiving SS benefits now when you can afford your own retirement? In other words, would you give up your SS benefits so you kids can invest their SS tax into their own retirement accounts (and you too if you have enough income to still be paying SS tax)?

Instead of asking rich people to pay for social security, why don't we stop paying rich people social security? If you can afford your own retirement, any social security you receive actually ends up going to your inheritors. That means social security is increases the wealth of the kids of rich retirees while decreasing the wealth of the kids of poor retirees by making them pay for the retirements of rich people. Social Security actually increases the gap between the rich and the poor. Instead of sending our money to DC, why not let workers invest their SS tax into their IRAs, 401Ks, and homes so they are less likely to become poor retirees. If you need revenue to pay for the poor retirees, increase the estate tax instead of the SS tax. Tax dead people, not working people.

I like how you snuck "government contracts" in there next to "subsidies". Your statement is a lie. SpaceX never received any subsidies from the government. It had to compete for those contracts and meet specified milestones. Not only that, the contracts were firm fixed price contracts which provide no recourse for the company in case of failure like other defense industry companies get. You probably have a problem understanding this because you are a Dem and Dems like to use NGOs and non-profits to steal trilions upon trillions of dollars from us taxpayers - no strings attached with no competition whatsoever.

Umm... He made Tesla and the Tesla power wall (a wall of batteries people can use to store renewable energy). He plans to put AI data centers in space instead of on the ground saving the planet from all that extra pollution and green house gas. His companies directly provide jobs for more than 110K people worldwide. He is the single largest tax payer the world has ever seen. Musk does more with a trillion dollars than our government will ever do.

How can you compare SpaceX and Musk to any country's GDP when they are a part of the American GDP? By separating Musk out from the country, you try to single him out as being something that is bad. Musk will do more with his trillion dollars than our government will ever come close to doing with a trillion dollars. Our government goes into another trillion dollars of debt every quarter. Musk saved us money with DOGE and finding fraud, waste and abuse. He creates jobs and extra tax revenue with his money. When you have a problem with Musk being rich, you have a problem with America being rich. American capitalism makes people rich. That's what capitalism does. American capitalism even made communist China rich. American capitalism turned communist China from a third world country into an industrial power. Communism didn't make China rich. Capitalism did. China became wealthy when it became more capitalist and less communist. Problems occur when America turns away from capitalism and socializes industries like health care, education or housing. When the government subsidizes industries, those industries become more expensive. Where the government allows industries to become multinational, monopolistic and government connected, those companies become less competitive, more expensive and less consumer focused. Where people are given more government subsidies and are turned into government dependents, the country loses its power. Where students are taught that American capitalism is bad instead of teaching students how to become self-sufficient, the country weakens. It is not capitalism that is the problem with America. It is the resistance to capitalism that is weakening America. And when American capitalism is weakened, so to is the world. x.com/NewsWire_US/st…

Think of what you are saying. You can afford to pay for your own retirement. That means the SS you receive offsets what you would spend otherwise. In other words, SS is only making your kids richer while it is making the kids of poor retirees poorer because they have to fund your retirement to make your kids richer. Paying SS to rich increases the gap between the rich and the poor. This needs to change. We need to allow people to invest their SS tax into their own IRAs, 401Ks and homes so they are less likely to become poor retirees. Imagine how much you would be worth right now if you were allowed to do this. If the gov needs revenue to pay for retirees who are still poor, increase the estate tax. Tax dead people, not working people.

@Palmerizer2 @RBReich I agree that government likes to lie to the taxpayers. They do it all the time. I put 20% of the salary into a 401k. So, I could get by without Social Security. My wife & I live comfortably on the $65,000 my savings generates. But I have 3 kids, & I take my SS benefit for them.

@Palmerizer2 @SSWorks @RonWyden You don’t understand the nature of the program at all. It is an INSURANCE program & it’s universal. Means testing it, which is what you suggest, will result in them calling it “welfare” & hastening its demise. A terrible idea.

@ABC Solar panels get hotter than blacktop. A lot hotter. Approx. 20-30% of the sun's radiation is converted to electricity by solar panels. The rest is converted to heat and transferred to the surround air. Solar panels raise the Earth's surface temps more than urban sprawl does.
