@MichaelFKane The Pirate and the Ninja, eternal internet archetypal rivals... are both glamorized myths in their own rights, based on fiction more than history. Oh the tragic irony.

Pirates are a weird trope. The best theory I have is that we long for the freedom of a ship, a crew, and no responsibilities in a fashion that never existed in any historical fashion. Certainly not as good guys. The Privateer may get closest, but that cleaves too close to responsibility and taking orders from the man. As such, the Pirate of fiction is entirely a work fantasy. It is a career that can be as heroic or villainous as the needs of the story because the pirate can choose his own fortune. And it's uh... kind of ridiculous the moment you stop to think about it. 😅 But again my theory is that because we have no realy world analogue we simply don't have a word and the idea of a free captain, master of his own destiny, has attached itself almost parasitically to the term pirate. And as long as it's a swashbuckler with rousing music, hammy accents, and a tankard full of adventure, audiences will generally suspend disbelief. Like I said; it's a weird trope. 😅

@lautricius And that's why I prefer the Zero series, which fixes EVERYTHING wrong with the X series. Instead of being a dog of the state, Zero fights for the innocent. Instead of Zero and Iris' destructive romance, Zero supports Ciel's dream. And finally, Zero finds what he's fighting for.

I'm sorry broski, but this just screams favoritism 😭. Zero and X act like cops in X4 and don't even stop for a second to question their killings of wrongfully labeled mavericks up until after the game is over. X4's narrarive is as sloppy as X5's but with pretty anime scenes
