Three-Member Council Temporarily Assumes Duties of the Supreme Leader A temporary council made up of the President, the Head of the Judiciary, and a cleric from the Guardian Council will step in to carry out the responsibilities of the Leader of the Islamic Republic for the time being. According to IRNA, a three-member council - made up of the President, the Head of the Judiciary, and a cleric from the Guardian Council - will temporarily take over the responsibilities of the Leader of the Islamic Republic. IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) is the official government news organ of Iran. This announcement follows Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution, which dictates that in the event of the death or incapacity of the Supreme Leader, a leadership council must manage the country until the Assembly of Experts (a body of clerics) elects a permanent successor. The inclusion of a “cleric from the Guardian Council” ensures the theological oversight central to the regime’s “Velayat-e Faqih” (Guardianship of the Jurist) system. This announcement comes amid earlier unconfirmed reports claiming that Masoud Pezeshkian and Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i - the heads of the Executive and Judicial branches of the Islamic Republic, respectively - had also died. As of the time of this report, no images or audio recordings of these two officials have been released, except for a statement from the government and a tweet on Mohseni-Eje’i’s X (formerly Twitter) account. In the closing hours of Saturday, February 28, internal sources in Iran reported that Mohammad Reza Aref, the First Vice President under Masoud Pezeshkian, has taken over the administration of the country under wartime conditions - a move that has raised questions about Pezeshkian’s health and ability to carry out his duties.

⚠️ Update: Metrics show #Iran has been offline for 12 hours after the regime imposed a nationwide internet blackout amid US and Israeli military strikes. While most countries work to stay connected in times of international conflict, Iran has again silenced its own population.

⚠️ Confirmed: Network data show #Iran is now in the midst of a near-total internet blackout with national connectivity at 4% or ordinary levels. The incident comes amid US and Israeli combat operations and matches measures used during last year's war with Israel.

Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention
The Lemkin Institute has had it with the cynical lies and propaganda from Israel and the USA. One can have different views about the definition of genocide, but one may not use definitional disputes to deny genocide. If a genocide may be occurring, every nation is compelled by customary law to try to stop it. Let us be clear: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The US is complicit in genocide. These are not political statements. They are statements that are made from knowledge and experience. Nevertheless, you do not need a PhD , a law degree, or X-ray vision to see the genocidal dimensions of Israel’s carnage in Gaza. It is clear in the behavior of the state and its military, on full display in yesterday’s horrific bombardment of a Rafah camp. But even if there were legitimate doubts about Israel’s genocide, there is no doubt that Israel is committing atrocity crimes of the most barbaric kind. Israel must be stopped. Israel must be stopped now. We are disgusted by Western leaders, especially in the USA, Germany, and the UK. They have demonstrated not only that they don’t care one bit about genocide prevention and human rights, but also that they are willing to allow an ally to commit atrocity crimes while they offer material and diplomatic support. It is reprehensible and the individuals involved in this gaslighting campaign should be deeply ashamed. They should also be put on trial. Humanity has a choice: Either we decide that our children can all be killed whenever a superior force alleges that “terrorists” are among us, or we decide that under no circumstances will we allow these superior forces to lay waste to our world any longer. We each must choose and act accordingly. The watershed moment is now.

Palestinians uncovered a second mass grave in Gaza with over 300 bodies, the majority Palestinian children and the elderly. The Israeli military killed and discarded them during its assault on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. This is a pattern. This is what a well-funded genocide looks like. 🧵

Continuing arms sales to Israel is unjustified & now possibly illegal. UK Government must now, finally, do the right thing. The UK Government should also intervene in the ICJ case ruling on genocide in Gaza and provide their legal advice to the Court. theguardian.com/world/2024/mar…

We are mourning with our colleagues in WCK. 7 of their aid workers were killed by an Israeli air strike in Gaza. WCK had informed the IDF of their movement. Nowhere else are so many aid workers killed. There must be an immediate ceasefire. Enough now. wck.org/news/gaza-team…

We're horrified that Al-Shifa Hospital is in ruins after a 14-day long operation by Israeli forces in and around the facility. Gaza’s largest hospital is now out of service. Given the extent of the destruction, people in the north are left with even fewer healthcare options.
