Jason Schreier said that almost every major studio is already using generative AI tools behind the scenes, especially Claude from Anthropic. He was replying to a fresh interview with Jack Buser, Google Cloud’s Global Director for Games. “I think what players don’t realise is that their favourite games right now were already built with AI. Those games have shipped.” Buser said that nine out of ten developers are using AI. According to Buser, the tools are mostly being used to kill off the boring, repetitive stuff so artists and designers can focus on the important creative work. He gave Capcom as an example, saying they use it to brainstorm thousands of small world details like pebbles or blades of grass

@ParipariPanini @Pirat_Nation Remember Cyberpunk's launch? Zero AI used in development. I just don't think AI development automatically means the game will be buggy. Things were buggy before AI, either due to being rushed or mistakes made by humans.

Having helped publish three other games on Steam now this has been my experience as well. Chinese customers are brutal. It makes me wonder if I should release my own games in that language at all.

@DioLarmguy It's a key metric for success. I think data shows that actually many steam users use the shorthand review score when deciding whether to buy a game. I'm not sure if there's any real solution to the issue valve could implement.

@ParipariPanini It seems like it would be a bit different to have to convince a publisher "this is just a very vocal segment that does not use the review system like you think they would, you have to pretty much ignore it"

I made a joke out of calling someone a grammar Nazi. Pulled aside by a teacher, scolded, brought to the principal who told her he would take it very seriously. As soon as she left he laughed, and told me I could leave. Had my principal been another hysterical woman who knows.

At the moment, we are building AI and AI-enhanced technology at a breakneck speed. Knowing the positive things this is doing in the software and security industry firsthand, I know that we absolutely can use AI to do beneficial things in agriculture, politics, transportation and a million other realms that are also positive. I know that we _can_ use this technology for the good of human kind, which is why I am so angry that we are doing the opposite now. We are not doing that, because currently the primary focus is enriching the top 0.1% of society who is sneering down their noses at the people who are understandably worried about losing their jobs. We continue doing this even as the anti-data center terrorism and anti-AI terrorism picks up pace. I do not know if the benefits of AI will outweigh the harms. I am fairly certain that they _can_ if we massively pivot AI development in a humanist direction, and if policy follows suit to create the social safety net we need to survive the pivot without killing off a large chunk of the poor or destabilizing the US and the world economy.

It’s not your expression, it’s a machine given words that it uses to create a consensus of how other people have expressed it. Expression is your voice, not the voices of others serrated and dragged through a machine made to mimic your mouth. You express nothing, you forfeit your voice to allow the rest of humanity to speak for you. Here, you even say the ultimate goal is the erasure of human voices. Your “expression” leads to a lack of humanity, not a furtherance of it. Every iteration and invention of art has found new ways to allow us to culminate the human experience through sensation, but generative AI is cancer, it’s the cells of what we’ve already built spinning ad nauseam until all we “make” is what others have already made. It’s a dead end and lifeless, and goes against whatever spirit, soul, or God gave us the gift of creation in the first place.

In every restaurant and public space now you can see old scratched up stickers telling everyone to stand 5 feet apart due to a global sickness 5 years ago. Overseas we call this technique "Environmental Storytelling".

Maybe by the time they catch up the second episode will be out.
