@thevicarswife Indeed. I think +Guli recognised the canons nonsense fairly quickly and now has a functioning college again. I suspect there will be precisely those questions you mention being asked amongst current senior leaders this week.

@ParishHutton Complete nonsense. I think the diocese should reflect on the processes that led them to such a stupid system. Who missed the pitfalls as it was rolled out, and how?

Deeply shameful abuse and unfit processes in the CofE exposed today. But also insane diocesan policies. Why on earth make Area Deans and Deanery Lay Chairs into Honorary Cathedral Canons? What is the point? And when are they going to discontinue it in Chelmsford?

@thevicarswife It was a strange anomaly for a few years which has led to there being 3 former Area Deans in my Deanery who are all canons and the current Area Dean who is not! Nonsense really, and it fed the ego of a dangerous man to boot. Ugh.

@ParishHutton A total mystery. Glad to hear that the Hon Canon thing has stopped but it was a ridiculous thing to implement in the first place, especially given one of the people thereby honoured.

@thevicarswife I’ve been an Area Dean in Chelmsford Diocese for the last 4 and a half years and am not an hon canon. The 5yr term is also correct and the Area Bishops tend to appoint, which is then ratified by the Diocesan. Why Tudor was not removed as AD before his suspension is a mystery.

Area Dean licenses are renewed every 5 years, I understand. If that was the case in Chelmsford why was Tudor's license renewed?

@devicesadesires Fr Andy here, Rector of Hutton where @deacon_shaped is curate. The lack of visibility of any kind of Diaconate in the church is one of the reasons. For us here in our Anglo-catholic trad, it works in demonstrating Alice’s liturgical role as well as her specific missional call.

Great joy as we celebrate this significant milestone in the church and to give thanks for our 3 amazing female clergy ( 2 priests and a distinctive deacon) and all they bring to parish life. Great video from @deacon_shaped @chelmsdio
