National Police Day is almost here, and this year, it hits different. For the first time in a long time, the Nigeria Police Force enters this day with renewed energy, a new direction, and a new Inspector General, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM. He has commanded in war zones, rebuilt broken units, mastered drone technology, holds a third dan black belt in Judo, and spent over thirty years proving that Nigerian policing can be done with excellence and integrity. A black belt does not lie. It is earned through sweat, discipline, and refusal to quit. It tells you everything you need to know about the man now leading Nigeria's Police Force. But beyond the leadership, this day belongs to every officer on every street, at every checkpoint, in every station across all thirty six states, including the FCT. The ones who left home before dawn. The ones who stood in the rain so we could sleep in peace. The ones who never made the headlines, but made the difference. Before the day arrives, say it with us, Olopa, Ekelebe, Dansanda... Thank you. We see you. Nigeria salutes you.

NPF ANNOUNCES 2026 NATIONAL POLICE DAY CELEBRATIONS THEMED “COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP: BUILDING TRUST". Following a formal press briefing held on the 23rd of March, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, the Nigeria Police Force officially announces the commencement of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations. Acting on behalf of the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, the Force PRO outlined a week-long series of activities scheduled to begin on Monday, 30th March 2026, culminating in a Grand Finale on Tuesday, 7th April 2026. This year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflects the Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the public, enhancing transparency, and building sustainable trust as the foundation for effective policing. To ensure the successful execution of this national event, an organizing committee has been constituted. The committee is headed by AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel (AIG CTU), with DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc(+), mni (Force PRO) serving as the Committee Secretary. The team comprises senior officers from key operational departments, including the FCID, PMF, EOD-CBRN, and Medical Services. Schedule of Activities: •Monday, 30th March (Day 1): Nationwide environmental sanitation exercises and free medical services for the public, with a focus on vulnerable groups. •Tuesday, 31st March (Day 2): A National Walkathon held in State Capitals across the country to promote unity and strengthen Police-community relations. •Wednesday, 1st April (Day 3): Public sensitization campaigns focusing on the dangers of electoral violence and the importance of safe driving practices. •Thursday, 2nd April (Day 4): Honoring fallen heroes through the presentation of cheques to their families at the Force Headquarters and across various State Commands. •Tuesday, 7th April (Grand Finale): A Ceremonial Parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring tactical displays by specialized units including the PMF, K-9, EOD, and CTU, demonstrating the operational readiness of the Force. The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to people-centered policing anchored on trust and mutual respect. We invite community leaders, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to join us for these scheduled activities. DCP ANTHONY OKON PLACID, psc(+), mni Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja. 24th March, 2026.

The IGP will not be goaded into taking needless actions. The case is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and is progressing well. Sentiments or emotional blackmail will not cow the Force. IGP Olatunji Disu, psc(+), NPM remains resolute in ensuring professionalism amongst his officers while equally asserting that any officer found wanting would be decisively sanctioned, as no officer is above the law.

Signs of Weak Leadership Under New IGP @TunjiDisu1 Are Already Manifesting! In the last few days, troubling signs have emerged suggesting that the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, @TunjiDisu1 , may be indecisive and not sufficiently firm in managing the affairs of the Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG. If these early signals are anything to go by, rogue elements within the Nigeria Police Force will quickly recognize and exploit this perceived weakness. One case that illustrates this concern is that of @MaureenBadejo, the UK-based blogger who has been held in Nigeria following complaints involving two prominent General Overseers, @APOSTLESULEMAN and Dr. @REAL_DKOLUKOYA . Maureen Badejo was initially brought before a Magistrate's Court, charged with cybercrime, which appeared uncomfortable with the apparent attempt to use its jurisdiction to perpetrate injustice. The magistrate granted her bail, allowing her temporary freedom, but the officers involved, led by a notorious Superintendent of Police (SP) Smart Abubakar, weren't happy and had tried to rearrest her and keep her in Kirirkiri prison. Following this development, Maureen Badejo traveled to Abuja, where a source within the new IGP’s office informed us that the Inspector-General’s Principal Staff Officer (PSO), CP Ahmed Lateef, wanted to meet with Maureen Badejo and TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri. (the woman who is also being oppressed by Tinubu's Works Minister, David Umahi) Both women attended the meeting alongside human rights lawyer Marshal D F Abubakar, Esq. During the discussion, PSO Lateef reportedly offered what he described as an 'apology' and stated that the new IGP would not want his tenure to be associated with abuse of citizens’ rights. However, from the outset, there were reasons to treat that assurance cautiously. I know Lateef to be a cunning police officer. I advised Maureen that the assurances could not be relied upon and decided to escalate the matter by contacting AIG Emmanuel Ade Aina, head of the Police Legal Directorate. AIG Aina indicated that he would "look into the matter." Many within the force describe him as capable and potentially upright, but often never straightforward in dealing with sensitive issues. After returning to Lagos, Maureen waited for action from both PSO Lateef and the police hierarchy. Instead of relief, the situation worsened. The police unit handling her case at the NCC unit of the FCIID replaced the prosecutor with a more aggressive officer, A O Nwabusi The case was then scheduled before Justice Akintayo Aluko on Tuesday, but was miraculously shifted to a Friday (The day of the week often associated with tactical arraignments designed to keep defendants in custody over the weekend even when bail is granted) Alarmed by these developments, I again reached out to AIG Aina to ask why Maureen was still being arraigned despite the earlier discussions. His response was shocking. While admitting that, by drawing his attention to the matter, he had called for the file and review, he then asked why Maureen should not face trial, stating that he had not initially realized that she had allegedly offended Apostle Johnson Suleman and suggesting that nothing would stop the prosecution. Maureen was subsequently arraigned today before Justice Aluko, a judge widely perceived to be particularly sympathetic to cases involving religious leaders. Justice Aluko previously presided over the case of Harrison Ofoegbu "Ijele" The King Of The Game who spent nearly two years in prison after offending pastor Evang.Ebuka Obi. In Maureen’s case, the matter has now been adjourned until March 16, 2026. There are fears that if bail is granted at the next hearing, the conditions may be deliberately difficult for her to meet. For me, this episode speaks to @TunjiDisu1's leadership style at the Nigeria Police Force under his purview as the new Inspector-General. Officers who thrive in a system of abuse and impunity will definitely find comfort in a leadership style perceived as conciliatory and hesitant. Some within the system already describe the new IGP as having plenty of demeanor but little decisive action a comparison that has been likened to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s leadership style. If the early days of IGP Disu’s tenure are defined by hesitation rather than firm oversight, rogue officers within the Nigeria Police Force will feel emboldened to continue the very abuses he reportedly promised would not define his leadership. WE MUST BRACE AND FIGHT UNTIL WE GET THE Nigeria Police Force WE DESERVE.

“…We are not the judiciary to make the final verdicts… we will fix your appointment with the judiciary where you will get a level playing time for your fair hearing…” My above statement clearly establishes the principle of separation of powers. As the Police, we investigate, while the judiciary performs its constitutional duty of adjudication based on the facts presented before it. It is therefore a call on complainants and witnesses to diligently follow through with cases and assist investigations to their logical conclusion.

It depends on the scope of the search or the intelligence gathered. Yes, they are allowed to search your handbag, as far as you are monitoring the search. The aim is simply to check to know that you don’t have contrabands and illegal things in your handbag. Note: We have recovered arms and ammunition through this means of search and other illegal things thereby saving innocent Nigerians from the rebate of illegality.

I was at the Henry Townsend House, Iwe Iroyin, themed “The Cradle of Journalism,” as a guest speaker at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council engagement, where I delivered a paper on cybercrime and free speech as it relates to journalism. I firmly clarified that the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended) is not designed to silence the press but to address the criminal misuse of digital platforms. Freedom of expression remains constitutionally protected, however, it does not extend to deliberate falsehoods or harmful digital conduct. Thanks to the NUJ OGUN STATE COUNCIL, may the Cradle be preserved.

Our commissioned officers at management level merit respect commensurate with their sacrifices and service, recognition that transcends ethnic narratives bearing no legitimate relationship to their qualifications. Promotions to Deputy Inspector-General based on geopolitical representation follow institutional protocols designed for equitable regional consideration. the most senior qualified officer from each zone receives appointment according to established guidelines. This reflects policy adherence, not favoritism. The manufactured controversy serves no legitimate purpose. DIG Frank Mba embodies the @PoliceNG's finest traditions, demonstrating exceptional leadership during periods of institutional challenge. His tenure as Force Public Relations Officer ranks among the most distinguished in our history, characterized by professionalism prioritizing institutional service over personal visibility. His record requires no embellishment, excellence speaks for itself. I know these officers personally and have collaborated with many on nation-building initiatives. We are privileged to have leaders of such integrity and capability. We honor them most authentically by refusing to reduce their achievements to ethnic calculations or manufacture divisive competitions among colleagues. DIG Mba's contributions have already secured his place in institutional history, and his continued service enriches our collective mission toward a more professional, effective police force. 🚔

Finally, Frank Mba will now respect his senior. He must have enjoyed the euphoria of rapid, favourable promotions aimed at whatever it was. Now, the scale is perfectly balanced. Everyone, dey your dey.
