@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Do you honestly think that your situation new in Church history? Claiming that the Church is burning to the ground is borne out of love for the Church, but it is an emotional response. The Church has been through way, WAY worse and remained the Church.

@Partemish28 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons "The Pope still holds his office". Yes, he does, no one is claiming otherwise. A person can own a house and still burn it to the ground. And what about those trying to live in it still?

Over the years the SSPX has been pretty diplomatic in its public statements regarding its relations with the Vatican. No more, apparently.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Donatism, by the way, taught much more than that. It also taught an ecclesiology of a Church constituted by the holiness of its members and clergy. This is heretical. The holiness of the Church is in Christ, who works through the offices and orders of often corrupt men.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Yes. A minister who fails to perform his duties in one area does not lose his authority in other areas. The Pope still holds his office, even if you think he applies his office unevenly. He still has authority to exercise his office, which is what he is doing with the SSPX.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons I've got one better for you, by the way. This is a painting of Pope Stephen VI putting Pope Formosus on trial. Urban VI is another winner. I'm wondering why the true Church is the one with this event in its history, rather than a church with a purer history.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons True or false: Church unity is essentially constituted by the holiness of its members and especially its clergy. True or false: a lack of personal holiness or pastoral prudence causes a duly elected bishop to lose office. Trying to pin down exactly what your picture means.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Is the Pope truly in schism? If so, what crimes did he commit which led to schism? Does a Pope in schism have the ability to consecrate bishops? Has he forfeited his office? Who determines that he is in schism?

@Partemish28 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The pope is in open schism to that. Popes and humans may be fallible. There is grace. But there is no grace for pride.

@MurrayRundus The first is a matter of the assent of intellect. A command is of action. Therefore they are not contradictory, even when stated in the exaggerated way you do.

“The Pope is infallible only in strict conditions, really it’s only been done two times in history!” And “You can never disobey the Pope even if it meant he said something that denies prior Church teaching, he is always right” Are *contradictory statements*

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Do you think Stephen VI was obedient to his moral and theological duties? Benedict IX, known for his upstanding moral life? Urban VI? It amazes me that anyone could think this is The Period of Crisis in Church history. Crisis? Yes. But one solved by saints within the Church.

@Partemish28 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons This is not about John 8:7. This is about Rome demanding formal obedience when it hasn't been obedient to its moral and theological duty for a long time. The pope may be primus inter pares, but so were hundreds before him. The gravity of the church is ancient and it pulls away.

@William94984551 @IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons No one likes immorality and scandal but these examples constitute a moral purity test of the true Church. It is the accusation of heretical sects: the Donatists, the Waldensians and the Protestant Reformers.

@IrelandOCDS @EricRSammons Speak for yourself. The vast majority of conservative Catholics has been weary for a long time now with child abuses, the gay cabal in the church, flaunting rejection of thousand year old dogma and virtues and now theological ecumene with Muslims and protestant sects.

🚨 Pope Leo XIV just declared the Iran War unjust. Called it a war crime. Said it is “not solving anything.” Then told Americans directly: call Congress. End this war. The same Pope Trump called weak on crime. The same Pope Trump fabricated a nuclear quote from. The same Pope whose brother received a bomb threat after Trump attacked him. The same Pope Speaker Johnson lectured on theology. 1.4 billion Catholics heard their leader call this war a crime.

@kingofthehood89 Medieval literature is a hoot. The Canterbury Tales are the most famous, but also a good gateway to understanding how accepted fart jokes and sexual comedy has been in Catholic culture.

The body is beautiful and should be explored in art or film. This weird puritan notion that the human body should be as covered as possible, even at the beach for example, is not “catholic” or “trad” it’s just spill over from a distinctly American Protestant mentality

@ProtecttheFaith @pontificatormax If this is a double standard, and everyone admits that the Germans ought to receive appropriate censure, are you admitting that you believe the SSPX also deserves censure? Or are you saying the Germans also did nothing wrong?

Vatican Drops Hypocritical Bombshell Warning to SSPX: New Bishops Would Offend God @pontificatormax I agree with Anthony Stein that Pope Leo is the author of the double-standards towards the SSPX. He is using Cardinal Fernandez as the front man for HIS policy towards the SSPX. Pope Leo has decided not to meet with Fr Davide Pagliarani even though he's happy to meet heretics and schismatics as if the Catholic Church is in communion with them. youtube.com/live/Z0Q4y0T8B… via @YouTube

I think the phenomenon of "conservative" Catholics who defend Novus Ordo and trash trads for being "holier than thou" comes down to them being unable to understand and accept that the hierarchy wants them out.

@BigModernism Isn't this meme self-defeating? The joke of the meme is that this clown is wrong, and that unrepentant schism really does have eternal consequences.

So, in other words, it doesn’t matter in the slightest if the SSPX is in “schism” since they will all be saved regardless. And excommunication makes no difference at all. Modernists don’t care that their own warped ideology is full of contradictions.

JUST IN: SSPX Superior General Fr. Davide Pagliarani addresses Declaration of Catholic Faith to Pope Leo XIV. sspx.org/en/news/declar… It comes one day after the Vatican’s doctrinal office formally reiterated that proceeding with episcopal consecrations on July 1 will constitute an “act of schism.” The Declaration reads: Most Holy Father, For more than fifty years, the Society of Saint Pius X has endeavored to set before the Holy See a matter of conscience in the face of the errors that are destroying Catholic faith and morals. Regrettably, all the discussions entered into have remained without result, and none of the concerns expressed have received any truly satisfactory response. For more than fifty years, the only solution truly considered by the Holy See has appeared to be that of canonical sanctions. To our great regret, it seems to us that canon law is thus being used, not to confirm in the Faith, but to lead away from it. In the text that follows, the Society of Saint Pius X is glad to express to You, filially and sincerely, its devotion to the Catholic Faith, concealing nothing, either from Your Holiness or from the Universal Church. The Society places this simple Declaration of Faith in Your hands. It seems to us to correspond to the minimum indispensable to be in communion with the Church, and to truly call ourselves Catholics and, consequently, your sons. We have no other desire than that of living and being confirmed in the Roman Catholic Faith. Read full declaration of the Catholic Faith here: sspx.org/en/news/declar…
