But it isn’t ancient history — even Vatican II condemns it:
“At all times and in all places, the Church should have true freedom to preach the faith, to teach her social doctrine... and to pass moral judgment even in matters related to politics, whenever the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls requires it.” (Gaudium et Spes, 76)

Catholics are the most politically split major demographic of Christianity in America. That means they can and do shift elections.

I was blessed to work in Rome for St John Paul II during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. That frail old man, who had lived through war and totalitarianism, denounced that war as the unjust madness it was. He led the world in pleas for peace, and Pope Leo now does the same.

• Repeatedly called out persecution in Nigeria and met their bishops last month
• Says that he is against the USA having 'open borders'
• Not only not a Communist but visited the tomb of Francisco Franco on pilgrimage
• Strong language against abortion, IVF, euthanasia
• Spoke publicly about Catholics murdered by Muslims on first day of his visit to Algeria

Eric Swalwell is now facing an expulsion vote in the House because of the sexual misconduct accusations against him. There have been 268 settlements for workplace disputes, including for sexual misconduct,
totaling $17 million in taxpayer money. In March 2026, the House voted to cover up the names of members paying to settle sexual misconduct claims. Why are the names of those members being covered up?

Humans are capable of both good and evil. Someone who is seen as good can make mistakes or even choose to commit grave public sins. Someone who is always criticized as evil or bad can also make good choices or do/say the right thing.
No person alive is fully saint or devil.
