The question that always pops up when discussing this topic is why would a gay man or woman join a party that vehemently opposes their very existence? The Republican Party writ large sees gay people as sinful, evil, degenerates. There are a few explanations. Some of these lawmakers are driven by a self-hatred so profound that they overcompensate by becoming Republican. They think that by oppressing other gay people, they can somehow make themselves "less gay." In other cases, they're just utterly immoral and see their own sexuality as a minor, irrelevant detail. In just the last few days, two people were fatally shot by federal immigration agents, and a third person was struck and killed by a truck while fleeing agents.   ICE briefly paused the vehicle stops at the center of the crisis until Trump demanded they resume. Now, three people are dead. Instead of stopping, investigating, and reckoning with what went so catastrophically wrong, this Administration is sending agents back out with the same reckless tactics. That is unconscionable. My Republican colleagues in Congress have had multiple opportunities to require body cameras, stronger use-of-force standards, independent investigations, and basic transparency from ICE. They rejected every safeguard and handed the agency billions more without meaningful guardrails.
