When her previous running mate pulled out, the Ohio Revised Code as written required the Secretary of State to nullify her candidacy. Since this happened prior to the primary election, she was then eligible to run as a write-in candidate. There was no debate, no exception made, no lawsuit. Heather simply asked if she was eligible to declare candidacy for the general election, and the Secretary of State confirmed that she was. The day we filed the declaration at least two senior members of the Secretary of State’s staff reviewed the application for completeness and accuracy, then accepted the declaration of candidacy officially allowing Heather Hill to be a candidate for Governor in the general election and for me as her running mate for Lt. Governor.

@quiltmaker49 @OHSecofState the nomination, though to me a plain text reading of the statue would indicate that absolutely she sought it. She filed, filed successfully, and campaigned, even sued to be considered eligible for the party nomination.

Today, Heather Hill filed paperwork with our office to run as a write-in candidate for governor. Her running mate listed for lieutenant governor is Patrick Manley.

There was no exception made. The Secretary of State removed her from the primary election after her running mate dropped out. Therefore, legally, it’s as if she never ran. What you highlighted says the “same election”. The primary and the general are two different elections. I’m her running mate.

I am running with Republican Heather Hill as registered write-in candidates. We are the only candidates for Gov. and Lt Gov running for working Ohioans. We intend to abolish property taxes, stop construction of new data centers and force existing wounds to pay for their utilities instead of dumping the cost on Ohio families.
