Hey guys who has a 5-2 majority on the state supreme court? Better yet, what party affiliation was the judge who originally struck down 8-0 in 2022

@ElliscbIV So it’s not like it was struck down by some conservative, Judge Battaglia certainly is left leaning. Plus, the case was never addressed by the court, so it’s possible the court rules against the legislature and redraws a map, which could net the GOP one seat.

@ElliscbIV Not exactly, but the map was struck down by Judge Lynne Battaglia, who was appointed to the Maryland Court of Appeals (now named the Supreme Court of Maryland) by Democratic Governor Parris Glendening. She previously was the COS of Barbara Mikulski.

The Hogan-appointed justices on the Maryland Supreme Court already blocked an 8-0 Democratic delegation before, so it’ll be interesting to see how Maryland Democrats try to work around that. Do they plan to pack the courts?
