@Qais_99k2 Obviously pakistanis will still continue talking abt past as this is the only deflection they hv agnst the present situation in POJK, Baluchistan & KP. Unlike pak we hv never used aircrafts, drones , heavy arty in Kashmir. In Manipur,it is not agnst India but btn Meitis & Kukis .

@darab_farooqui Dhurendhar was propaganda. Satluj is a naked document on genocide of Sikhs. It's truthfulness hurts, but that's the problem with truth, it hits hard.

And now that I have seen the movie, Satluj. I can confidently say, it's not propoganda at all. Only those who don't have a dispassionate perspective or don't understand movie making at all, will call it propoganda. There is not an element of propoganda in the movie.

Can any Muslim, Sikh, or Christian in India confront the police like this? You already know the answer. That is why we say, excessive police and governmental brutality toward minorities is considered state policy. Nobody would have an issue if the state treated minorities in the same way that it does the majority. We will speak the truth because we are powerless. Speaking the truth is the only thing they can't take away from us.

Gone are the days when you could just say "Khalistani" or "Islamist" and we'd nod along. And understand this. We don't like them either. But we've also watched what you do when it's your own Sanghi terrorists. Bail. Garlands. Election tickets. A Hindutva terrorist gets a lawyer and a Lok Sabha seat. Everyone else gets the full weight of the state. So here's the deal, and it's the only one. Either Islamists, Khalistanis and Sanghis are all wrong, or nobody is. There's no version of this where your extremists are patriots and everyone else's are terrorists.

There is another way to look at why Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid get the support they get. The usual answer is Gandhi. Umar invoked the Constitution, the flag, ahimsa, the whole grammar of the liberal Indian conscience, and Sharjeel did not, so the liberal warms to one and turns away from the other. Fine. It is not wrong. But it explains far less than people think it does, because it treats the whole thing as a matter of vocabulary, as if Sharjeel had only picked the right quotations he too would have had lawyers and editorials and hashtags. He would not have. And here is why. Umar's politics is broader. I don't say that as a compliment, I say it as a fact. And the support follows the politics. Look at what he spoke on. Caste. Labour. Campus. Ayodhya. Farmers. Dalits. Adivasis. Women. Power. Covid. The condition of Muslims in this country. Poor people walking home across a locked down India. Name it, he had been there, he had said something. And here is what that really means, which is not what his admirers think it means. Every one of those fronts left behind people who remembered him. The farm unions remember who stood with them. The campus crowd remembers JNU. The anti caste lot remember where he was. So when they came for him, all of it came back at once. That is not the reward of a better politics. That is just how solidarity works. It is built out of memory. Stand in enough other people's fights and enough people remember you when it is your turn. Gandhi did not do that for him. Ten years of showing up did. Sharjeel worked one front. And note this, it was a front Umar worked too, so the subject was never the difference. Both men are in jail. Gandhi did not save Umar from the police. The state read them the same way, and the Constitution bought him nothing at the station. What Umar had was not a better vocabulary. It was a longer list of people he had stood with. Sharjeel is not forgotten. He simply gets less. And not because he quoted the wrong man. Because he stayed on one question while Umar went across many, and it is width that brings people to your door. None of which means he deserves to be alone in there. It only means you can see how it happened. The state has always known the difference. Now the thing that nobody says. I have sat on it for a long time. Today I will say it. The Trad Muslims go gaga over Sharjeel. The Urdu medium crowd is his. Umar gets the English medium crowd, and inside Muslim circles the support for him mostly comes with a but... Lekin murtad to hai. Umar doesn't come out of this unscathed, whatever people keep claiming. He has his wounds to bear too. It's just that Umar's politics is broader. His support is broader because of it. That is all this is.
