My heart goes out to Mr. Heitman’s family and friends and those at the @stlcao. A tragic loss.

It is clear that Ms. Gardner cannot recover from the mass exodus of staff leaving the Circuit Attorney’s Office. I believe she is unable to fulfill her duties. For the sake of the people of the City of St. Louis and public safety, Ms. Gardner should resign.

There is a solution here. Accept the help offered by experienced attorneys and other jurisdictions. The backlog of cases is unjust for victims and defendants and something needs to change.

The case that finally opened the doors, displaying all of the issues in the Circuit Attorneys Office, continues to baffle me. The rules and responsibilities of the job are clear — and she is failing. #STL

And — for what it’s worth, I agree that the system has to change, but in the interim people are suffering. Mismanagement has consequences. The office needs to function well as a baseline in order to bring about any real institutional change. 7/7

Something has got to change. Whether it’s accepting help from me, other private attorneys, or area prosecutors, the @stlcao must accept this help before more missteps lead to more severe consequences for the citizens of #STL. 6/7
