sinners is a terrible watch for people who have no basic understanding of american history, jim crow, irish history, the gospel to blues pipeline and the ongoing fight between the black church and black spirituality, or have never seen fireflies.

@RecruitBoss @AmeriKraut Sometimes you have to learn about things you know very little about to truly appreciate a film. I loved Interstellar, but I didn’t know how wormholes work, or general theories of multiple dimensions etc… Sinners is like that but with culture folks like you and I aren’t privy to.

@AmeriKraut You know when a movie is good? When you don't have to constantly explain why it's good. The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, Ben Hur, Citizen Kane, Rocky, Star Wars, Silence of the Lambs, Pulp Fiction...... We don't have to explain why they are good. Because they empirically are.

If you see Project Hail Mary this weekend, I hope you'll remember how I told you over 3 years ago that stuff like this was going to explode in pop culture. -From ironic cynicism to post-ironic sincerity. -Embracing the "cringe" & the celebration of the earnest "try-hard." -From deconstructing the past, to a nostalgia for some positive "vibe" we lost in the deconstruction. -The rejection of Fight Club-era nihilism. -The ability to stare at the apocalypse in front of you and be hopeful instead of a "doomer."

STL is one of 3 major cities completely disjointed from its metro region. Joining the city and county would ideally lead to less waste within govt and hopefully improve the region.

Is St. Louis the most tragic big city in the U.S.? It basically has Chicago-tier architecture and urban fabric and New York-tier parks, but has an anemic local economy and Houston's transportation system.

Tight end Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are working on a deal to bring him back to Kansas City for a 14th season, but nothing has been finalized. It would be a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. Kelce is exploring the market with a few select teams, sources say.
