@Empty_America @RolloRouen There are different ethnicities within “white” and Anglo Saxon was denoting the specific ethnic heritage. White, English, and Protestant. Sociologists in the 60s modified the term for blacks who followed white culture calling them BASPs. While wealthy is true, white is better.

@RolloRouen Technically it seems to have originally stood for "white" but that is meaningless since the Anglo Saxon already covers that, in practice "Wealthy" is a better meaning.

The other thing to understand is that the "P" in WASP didn't mean what you might think. They had zero cultural relationship with anything like modern evangelicalism, southern Baptists, etc. Especially in NYC, many were attending very high Episcopal Churches, like this:

Been reading a lot of old books satirizing traditional WASP culture and I would love for someone smart to explain to me why Catholicism became the aspirational right wing trad country club aesthetic instead of Protestantism…? 🤔

@pietrogreen00 @YourPrimePath You will inevitably regret your decision Peter. It is the inevitable consequence of your decisions and actions. You’ll be extremely lonely, you know it aswel you just push it out stubbornly but you fear its inevitability.

Getting married sounds stupid as fuck until you see a single man in his 60s Go home alone, read a book, only one light on in the house, no goofy kids visiting for the holidays Suddenly a dumb argument with a pleasantly plump aging wife twice a week doesn't seem so bad

As a 50ish year old man who is approaching this situation and very content with life I feel compelled to ask, why is this such a talking point for people who traveled another path? Post about how happy you are , rant and rave even! Good for you. I’m here minding my own business enjoying MY existence and along comes some guy trying to tell me how miserable I am because I didnt make his choices. Something doesn’t add up in that fellow’s happiness equation if he has to drag me into it.

@OrevaZSN It's a Pagan holiday, that the Church kept, but changed the story so that the common folk wouldn't revolt. Ever wonder why a Religious holiday, about a guy being killed and returning is immortalized by Rabbits and eggs? Or the birthday of said guy uses Fir trees and Santa?

@OrevaZSN Serious question, if Christians believe that astrology is witch craft. How do they explain the most celebrated holiday being directly tied to the moon cycle?

The Bible specifically and repeatedly refers to 4-5 "brothers" of Jesus, using that term. Apologist responses here have always struck me, personally, as variants on "wine means grape juice."
Jennifer Greenberg 🕊️@JennMGreenberg

I never understood the purpose of this doctrine. Obviously Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus, but why must she remain perpetually so? Especially when the Bible talks about Jesus’s brothers. She was married to Joseph and sex within marriage is good, not sinful.

🔥🚨BREAKING: Pope Leo hosted an exorcist summit at the Vatican due to fears fears of a coming worldwide surge in “occultism, esotericism, and Satanism.” where devil worship becomes one of the most popular religions in the world. The Chicago-born head of the Catholic church held a private meeting with a delegation of Catholic priests from the International Association of Exorcists (AIE) “They presented a report on the growing prevalence of cases related to occultism, esotericism, and Satanism, and the spiritual consequences they believe this has for many people,” “During the meeting, the Association asked the Pontiff to ensure that every diocese in the world has one or more adequately trained exorcist priests.”

@JohnECochran_ @VladTheInflator He’s right about the Lowcountry. There are families with the surname Cohen and Moses. Also, most of those Jewish families also had black descendants so you had free black families with surnames DaCosta, Sasportas, Cohen, Myers, and Cardozo.
