@PaulAndersonDBC

Now been birding proper for over 50 years! Seen many changes and still learning. Keen on migration & breeding biology. Favourite bird is the amazing Swallow.

@NestingUpNorth Sadly so nowadays. In my youth like a number of other species, migrant and resident, they were widespread and not at all uncommon in much of lowland Durham. Lovely birds.

@PaulAndersonDBC Yes Paul. However in my post l forgot to note the bird was at the Steel and not the flats. It was sat on one of the large rocks in the muddy bay.

@Mikepastycarr Happy Days indeed. My first visit and it blew my mind. That Parula in The Parsonage was an absolute stonker. I remember seawatching from Peninis in torrential rain and a F12 thinking we would see all sorts. We got 4 Gannets and 2 Mallards 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@PaulAndersonDBC Remember the Sunset discos on the Pier where you got a pasty on entry? I used to scavenge all the unwanted ones - and subsequently slept well under the porch of the Primary School - still rate that Parula as one of the best birds I’ve seen in Britain

@Mikepastycarr Yes they are very substantial as we used to live primarily on one of those a day on our first Scilly visit back in 1983. We were camping on The Garrison to save cash too so we had more 🍻 in the evening. It was a great year too yanks galore Cliff Swallow Parula Grozzer Sora etc

@PaulAndersonDBC Excellent value - just over a fiver and they’re the weight of an average house brick or about 12.67 Greggs pasty equivalents🙂

Decent passage of Gannets today in the strong WSW winds.
