@UrlTyrconnell @JakeFitzsimons It applies to everyone who might, potentially, be the subject of an unproven allegation against them. Not just members of AGS. Potentially even you, or anyone you care about.

The high court has ruled our state's Garda Vetting system to be unconstitutional. Applicants have reported having information that is non-essential held on record without knowledge and even having it be held against them in character assessment. Garda vetting should only contain convictions. That's it. irishexaminer.com/news/courtandc…

@UrlTyrconnell @JakeFitzsimons How does that support your claim that the two plaintiffs in the case are (1) "here under our charity". (2) Have no other "connection to the State". (3) Have no "stake in our constitution"?

I just got an email from Panda that they will now be charging a fuel surcharge plus VAT due to the rise in fuel prices. Didn't the government give them some sort of discount in fuel as compared to the average consumer, or am I misunderstanding this?

@Maritas_EUEnvir @Muinchille Oh dear. What sort of friends are they, who would think to fall in love with someone whose nationality isn't on your Approved List. Had you no sense, in the run up, that they were people who you maybe shouldn't have befriended in the first case?

@Muinchille We suspect that the govt would like them to be here long enough to get citizenship, trying to get the numbers up to 10 million asap (just not Irish) and help fast track entry to EU. Recently, also, a bunch of men I know have hooked up with Ukrainian women.

The generosity shown to Ukrainian refugees was extreme and bizarre, casually organised, ill-considered, and mostly unnecessary. Ireland very much supported Ukraine after the Russian invasion, but this was absurd.
John McGuirk@john_mcguirk

This is not anti immigrant sentiment. 55% of people polled felt Ukrainians have made a positive contribution. The public think that the Government has taken the piss and favoured others over their own citizens. People are anti politician, not anti Ukrainian. And they're right.

@paulmcguinness6 No they didn't. The package of measures on fuel costs announced last month aims only to provide some relief to the transport, farming & fisheries sectors. It's not aimed at any other sector of the economy such as waste disposal. gov.ie/en/department-…

Just got an email from panda waste announcing a 97 cent plus Vat fuel surcharge per month starting in May. Sneakily dropped out there on a bank holiday weekend. Did these businesses not just get a deal from the Government? #fuel #rubbish #sneaky #ripoff #panda

@TruueDiscipline @SpiritAirlines No you obviously can't get such a refund from a company that is insolvent, and was never a party to your contracts with those other businesses etc. But what you have got is a (very expensive) lesson in why prudent people buy travel insurance.

Hello, @SpiritAirlines I was going to go on vacation but my flight got cancelled. Please let me know if I can get a refund on my Carnival Cruise tickets, my rented Nissan Altima, my prepaid meals at Red Lobster and my tickets to six flags.

@JakeFitzsimons Crazy stuff. Our Constitution is for us. Not for some reject from Botswana or whatever. What judge has the audacity to dance on my rights. I want to meet with him.

@OrlaSingh7538 @ciarannugent Those are individual choices relating to work/life balance - and, incidentally, they're made by men also. But from a societal/economic viewpoint it doesn't greatly matter if some people choose not to seek advancement provided other qualified people do want those higher paid jobs.

@PaulDub20 @ciarannugent Paul there are women in the workforce all over the place who won't take promotions because the increase to their responsibility and call on their time and energy is not compensated. Totally blunts the power of bonus too when employees take home 48% of it.

@OrlaSingh7538 @ciarannugent I think you'll find that such a disincentive is quite minimal. There are very few people earning less than 70K who decline to compete for promotion or better paid jobs. Or who decide to work part time so as to keep their earnings below 70K.

@ciarannugent Shouldn't you look at the marginal rate? So any incentive to earn above what about 70k is hit with circa 52% marginal from that point on?

@GarethNotGarth No they wouldn't. You're as entitled as anyone else to make an application under the Personal Insolvency Act 2012 if you're insolvent. There are loads of cases going through the courts at any one time. For example the reported case was one of 28 in last Monday's High Court list.

I’m 50k in debt. They’d send me to prison before they’d consider writing it off. But when you’re a member of the Irish aristocracy things work differently.

@MichaelPTKelly It's not the logistical difficulties are the problem. It's determining what should be the appropriate form of representation for non-resident citizens. My solution - abolish the 6 University Senators and replace them with 6 senators elected by the Irish abroad.

@katiewr31413491 @keira_con Because most Irish medical graduates want to go working in Australia or New Zealand during the early years after they qualify. So they're not applying for the jobs here in Ireland.

The state of Ireland today, 7000 Irish health practitioners left Ireland for Australia as they could not get jobs here, these Irish people did not need interpreters and had solid exams, and certification which could be verified in Ireland, unlike person coming from other countries 😉

@br17760802 @ruggermurph27 There is only one medical council in Ireland. This group is an association. Last time I checked the Irish Constitution still included a right to associate freely.

@ruggermurph27 There should only be one medical council in Ireland, the Irish Medical Council. Any issues foreign doctors have should be addressed to the Irish Medical Council.

Why is there an indian Irish medical Association? What purpose can this possibly serve other than to create enclaves and classes within the health services. Although indian culture does promote such ideas 🤔
RTÉ News@rtenews

The Indian Irish Medical Association conference in Co Meath has heard fresh calls for the removal of administrative barriers for Indian doctors who wish to register to work in Ireland rte.ie/news/ireland/2…
