Couple of things that come into play here: - ads subconsciously influence your thoughts, and when they show up again when you're paying attention, it feels surprising - we often search queries related to our thoughts in Google, discuss thoughts we have with AI, write down notes and so on - we behave like people in our social circle, people with similar interests, and are in general more predictable than we think

I get how the phone can target ads by hearing and seeing me, but how is it showing me ads based on my thoughts? I can't be the only one noticing this.

@joyofcodedev As a firefox user I really dislike how much space this design concept wastes. The padding around the website is really not necessary.

@kais_rad This is just using the browser's native <select> which looks better on MacOS and Linux than in Chrome for Windows.. I think it's an improvement because e.g. on mobile you'd expect the native select instead of a custom version and it's (slightly) more performant.

@Th3Bu11B3ar @SawyerMerritt That's because VW has ~670,000 employees and Tesla around 130,000. Also, Tesla cut their workforce significantly in 2024. Tesla is pretty lean as a company with only a couple of models, whereas VW and its many sub-brands is not

@SawyerMerritt Tesla’s net income dropped significantly year over year as well but I don’t foresee them laying off a significant amount of employees anytime soon

NEWS: Volkswagen has announced that it will cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 as its profits dropped to their lowest level since 2016. CEO Oliver Blume said that the cuts would take place in Germany and fall across the entire group, including Audi and Porsche. VW said post-tax profits had fallen by around 44% in 2025.

Just got push notifications with e2e encrypted preview images working for my security camera project

The glass itself I think is cool. In some places it looks good. But design consistency is nowhere to be found. Instead of updating the apps to let content shimmer through the glass, most of them have gray backgrounds where the glass looks ugly and then there are some frosted glass elements that they forgot to update etc.

@PaulPlayStudio @mweinbach @theo Yeah, LiquidAss looks so bad. My god, I need to install Aero theme on my desktop. That's basically what Apple was going for, but Microsoft absolutely nailed that aesthetic balanced with readability and usability.

I am surprised that iToddlers are coming out in droves the last 6 months realizing how shitty Apple products are. They were never good btw. Well, maybe iphones 3 through 5 were pretty good tbh. Don't get me wrong, Windows11 is unplayable too.

@mweinbach @theo @CryptoCyberia The software looks 50% updated (Liquid glass), 20% glitchy, and 30% outdated (regular blur, odd half-liquid-half-frosted widgets and buttons etc.)

@ilyamiskov One thing that I love about my 16 inch is the size of the trackpad. If you use your macbook with a bigger monitor it makes a huge difference.

As someone who's been using a 16" M1 Max Macbook Pro, I'm thinking about going with the 14" model next year. Any serious drawbacks to the 14" besides the smaller screen size? Is the Max chip too much to handle for the 14"? Curious to hear about your experience guys.
