The #9thICGSMeeting is held in Bichibich, GPAA, bringing together representatives from the Nuer, Dinka Bor, and Murle communities to review the commitments made during the 8th ICGS meeting in Bor in November 2025. The primary objective of the meeting is to assess progress on commitments undertaken by chiefs, armed youth, women leaders, and Commissioners—key members of the Intercommunal Governance Structure (ICGS). Notably, despite ongoing challenges such as sporadic attacks, abductions, and cattle raiding, some progress has been achieved. In Bor we heard tragic stories from those impacted by violence in northern Jonglei. The Ambassador discussed with the Governor of Jonglei the urgent need to end the violence & ensure humanitarian access. Through our partners, the 🇬🇧 is providing support to the most vulnerable.

The governor of Jonglei, H.E Dr. Riek Gai Kok, and the CA of GPAA, H. E Gola Boyoi Gola, witnessed the handover of Bich Bich and Wuno’s Community Engagement Centres established with support from RSRTF Consortium members (Peace Canal and POF South Sudan), Bich Bich Payam, Gumuruk County. In 2025, the centres were established to enhance the peace activities to achieve sustainable peace in the area. This is the 9th ICGS Meeting, where communities are coming together to dialogue and find solutions to achieve among the Dinka, Murle, and Nuer. For a very long time now, inter-communal fights, cattle raiding, and child and women abduction have taken so much from the communities and brought little in return. This morning in Nganapangkuz, Bichibich, the 9th Intercommunal Governance Structures (ICGS) meeting begins, bringing communities together for the next four days. We are honoured to have the Chief Administrator of GPAA, H.E. Gola Boyoi Gola, and the Governor of Jonglei State, H.E. Dr Riek Gai Kok, both committed to this process. For six years, we have walked this road together. Despite setbacks, we keep going. Over the coming days, the focus is clear: accountability and local ownership. The delegation for the ICGS Meeting has arrived in Bic Bic Payam, Gumurk County. This is the 9th ICGS Meeting where communities dialogue and find amicable ways to resolve endless conflicts, inter-communal fights, cattle raiding, and child and women abduction. Conflict has been a major issue among the communities of GPAA and Jonglei states for so many years. It has led to the destruction of properties, lives have been lost, and so many children and women have not been reunited with their loved ones. In our last two meetings, we have seen the impact of the ICGS dialogue through Peace Canal, POF South Sudan, and other various peace partners, where kids have been returned to their homes, and some youth are abolishing the raiding.
