IMO it’s not about neutralizing the supreme leader. Trump signaled that by saying he would share control of Hormuz specifically with the SL. It’s about finding a civilian leader that can bridge the SL and bring the IRGC into line.

Karp is spot on here. I know a lot of libertarian sensitivities here will get offended, but if you’re rich, the best way to keep your wealth long term is to make sure everyone else gets a good, fair shake. The best example of this was the introduction of state pensions and benefits in 19th century Germany, in order to blunt the rising support of the Socialist parties. It was successful in not only raising the standard of living, but allowing the Kaiser and other ruling families in the German federation to retain power and privilege up to and during the First World War. The modern corollary is you cannot have people without heath care coverage and guys like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos about to lap a trillion dollar net worth.

Elon is a much better capital allocator than the government. So when you tax him, you're not doing it to make society better. You're simply wasting money. The answer isn't to punish Musk for his wealth by taxing him, but to create an environment where more Elon Musks can emerge.
