No particular point here, just some general thoughts about AI surveillance in a real-world application: Tannen (on the camera) and I recently went to a Target while traveling to buy some stuff for our trip. After buying stuff, we walked out and the door sensors went off because a clerk didn't remove a tag properly. We went back in and they told us to just walk out and that it was fine, since human cashiers already verified our purchase. I asked them to please locate the tag and remove it before we leave. The cashier said it was fine and not to worry about it. My concern was that, through some automated or AI system, we would be catalogued as thieves if we walked out and the 'AI' system thought the item was stolen. Target has one of the world's most advanced camera-based loss prevention systems and, as I understand it, it logs shoplifting silently for people it has identified (seemingly partly with 'AI') until those people exceed a felonious amount of theft. My understanding is that Target waits to intervene with police until this point, so as to pin stiffer charges on people. It makes sense. We ended up hunting for the tags on our own. I don't blame the cashier for handwaving it since she had literally just scanned our items, but we were both paranoid about the system erroneously flagging us for something we paid for. We searched for the tags ourselves instead and the door alarm didn't go off the next time. I had thought maybe I was operating on too high of a level of paranoia (as I often do out of safety), but just this morning, I read an article that people are having to prove themselves innocent after AI shoplifting detection systems are falsely flagging them and accusing them of theft after legitimately purchasing items. That's it. There's no big point or anything. I think it makes sense for stores to have loss prevention, but I'm worried about if no one ever reviews the "AI" version of that before it logs faces as thieves. In our case, we weren't accused of anything -- but I do wonder if that first exit alarm trip logged my face in some system somewhere. Probably.

Former Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aimé explained why the company stopped selling Wii and DS systems directly to Amazon. Back then, Nintendo sold about 10 million DS units a year in the Americas. Amazon wanted the lowest prices anywhere, even lower than Walmart and they asked Nintendo for what Reggie called an “obscene amount” of extra financial support. Reggie told the Amazon executive: “You know that’s illegal, right? I can’t do that.” Nintendo said no. They stopped direct sales of Wii and DS to Amazon. Reggie said: “Literally we stopped selling to Amazon, and it’s because I wasn’t going to do something illegal. I wasn’t going to do something that would put at risk the relationship we have with other retailers.” This choice protected Nintendo’s ties with other big stores like Walmart and GameStop, it also showed Amazon that Nintendo would not be pushed around. Nintendo later started selling on Amazon again with the Switch.

The gaming news site TheGamer shows their double standards again by publishing an article about the new game Neverness to Evernes claiming the game is already being turned into the ultimate “gooner game.” They criticize how some players use the first-person camera to focus on female characters in suggestive ways. The same site also ran a story calling the Resident Evil Requiem character Leon Kennedy “a hot uncle.” Journalism is getting worst every day

@Pirat_Nation The wire gauge is still the same, the GPU end of the connector is gold plated so you're mixing metals, and ARMOURY Crate isn't even required unless you want to read voltages with a ROG Thor PSU to plug that extra 2 pins into so you got numbers to look at while it burns. Splendid

ASUS sells a special power cable called the ROG Equalizer for €50 and say it stops the power plug from melting on strong graphics cards like the RTX 4090 and 5090. ASUS claims it shares power evenly between the pins, uses better gold contacts, and stays cool even at high power. But hardware expert der8auer opened it up and tested it, he found it is not smart at all. It just has a simple metal bridge inside to link the wires, no electronics to balance power. In his tests, this bridge made the power even more uneven between the pins, One pin carried much more current than others. Taking the bridge out actually made it better. The cable is also stiffer, which can bend and stress the plug in small PC cases. The gold contacts picked up tin from the graphics card side, which could cause problems later. der8auer says the cable gives only a small safety boost and does not fix the melting problem as advertised. He thinks it is not worth the high price compared to normal good cables.

@RazorFist I consider myself a drummer. I got 4 limbs that each have a mind of their own that work to do some cool things, not the best things ever, but it's a hobby. . . I don't think I could coordinate myself into any of this without pulling teeth with an act of congress. YMCA it is.

@KadyMuhammad1 @SydneyLWatson Although I can agree with the last one, the first 2 aren't hostile or toxic to western culture. In fact, the Amish are by far the best ones of the bunch. Islam is incompatible and not so secretly hostile to all cultures it comes into contact with. Get behind me Satan.

@iamyesyouareno Our police would arrest us for doing their job and let the real perpetrators go. Our judges let the homicidal maniacs free on a $5 foot long Subway coupon bond with a 10 minute prison sentence. We need to do something about this.
