@lisatomic5 Some people don’t have “tidy” minds, but do have an almost superhuman ability to understand just about any concept. The problem is the disconnect between the two. Don’t ask him to learn small, boring things in isolation. Combine little details *with* with the abstractions.

so I've read this is common for smart autistic kids but did anyone else have trouble with "basic" mental math but then were good at higher/abstract math? my son finally was like "wait this algebra stuff is cool and easy" after feeling "bad at math" for years thoughts/advice?

@carsales_guy I also recommend finding a good shop to sound deaden the doors with Dynamax. I had this done and now my truck is as quiet as my Lexus.

@carsales_guy Is it an R or 37 package? If not, RPG collars (leveling kit) plus 37 inch tires and 20 inch wheels go a long way. Bed cover is a must. BAKflip MX4 is great. If you’re used to high-end audio, you might be tad disappointed, but easy to upgrade. Congrats on a sick truck! 😁

Looks like my Raptor has entered CA, and I’ll be taking delivery any day. I’ve never owned a truck before; any words of advice? I started getting impatient and almost pulled the trigger on an M3 Comp 😛

@GuyDealership I’d LOVE more content revealing insider opinions from dealership service departments. For example, maybe Ford dealerships know that recent F150 and Bronco models have bad reliability, while a 2014 F150 is a workhouse… people want their used cars to last a while!

Thereby betraying their lamentable ignorance. They should hear “intelligence” and think “on average, Ashkenazi Jews, East Asians, some South Asian ethnicities, probably Parsi, and some white ethnicities.”

@aanixel Your IQ is basement level, Ian. Shouldn’t be surprised, considering you got your PhD in a nonsense unserious field. A literal child could’ve done your silly PhD in a quarter the time it took you.

Was waiting for Haidt to express something along these lines. He uses scientific language to attempt to obscure his bigotry, but it's always there.

@gmiller >Bought a Ford Raptor brand new in 2014 for 60k (cash) >drove for 8 years, put on ~50k miles >sold in early 2022 for 52k >zero issues except for regular maintenance >works out to ~$85 a month lol

Vehicle frugality challenge: For the vehicle you drive most often, 1) take the price you paid for it (new or used, whenever you bought it) 2) add the total interest you paid on any car loan for it (if any) 3) add the total maintenence & repair costs you're spent 4) subtract how much you could sell it for now Divide that net cost by the number of years you've been driving it. Anybody have a net cost per year of less than $2,000? (If so, what make, model, & year are you driving?)

@eyeslasho No one said they were “overrepresented on merit” but they are overrepresented based on population percentage. Asians aren’t negatively affected by DEI, they have the highest median income and receive the most degrees per capita. This narrative is hilarious

@GuyDealership Plug-in hybrids are the obvious solution. Allow plug-in hybrids to qualify as “electric” vehicles, and that 30-56% target will be hit easily. Works out to be almost as environmentally friendly. Most people won’t exceed electric-only range in a given day.

BREAKING You might not own an electric vehicle by 2032, after all. The EPA is *easing* its emissions rule ramp-up after major concerns from the car industry. Percentage of EVs by 2032: Previous plan: 67% Current plan: 30-56% Dealers and consumers - how do you feel about this? Tell me below. Will compile responses and summarize sentiment. @GadgetsBoy Natural reaction to the pendulum swinging too far. EV evangelists promise the moon, and EVs do have some great qualities, but lots of limitations make gas (or PHEV, ideally) the more practical choice for now.

Gary Marcus
Gary Marcus@GaryMarcus·
If there is no GPT-5 this year, as Sam recently implied, and companies continue to struggle to find a killer app, might another AI winter come? Consider: OpenAI’s app store is struggling, Microsoft Copilot is underwhelming, and many companies are scaling back expectations. Agents and operating systems are fantasies, for now. Driverless cars are still demos, radiologists haven’t been replaced. Google Duplex was a dud. Rosie the robot is still at least a decade away. So many promises have been broken. Meanwhile, nobody has a moat, a price war seems imminent, and significant profits seem distant. At some point, enthusiasm may dwindle, at least until the next breakthrough, whenever that may be.
Ewan Morrison@MrEwanMorrison

@GaryMarcus The embarrassing myth of "emergence". Such self delusion. The third AI winter is heading this way and has been brought about by hype and hubris, as it was the last two times.

@tferriss Lots of high achieving people tend to fall into the trap of over-optimizing every domain of their life to the point where they forget how to do something because it’s fun; even if it isn’t optimal.

Tim Ferriss@tferriss·
The word optimal is bandied about with much fanfare. “Your progesterone might fall within the normal range, but it’s not optimal.” The question here, seldom asked, should be: optimal for what? Triathlon training? Extending lifespan 40%? Increasing bone density 20%? Having sex three times a day? “Optimal” depends entirely on what your goal is, and that goal should be numerically precise. “Optimal” is usable, but only when the “for what” is clear. If it isn’t, treat optimal as Wikipedia would: a weasel word.

I think the reason why rites of passages have become so rare is because nothing is sacred anymore. We don’t fear anything, let alone God. Weddings have become luxurious caricatures of the sacrament they used to be. We’re seeking horizontally, not vertically, which is why we can’t seem to transcend our distractions. Few desires today are continuous and integrally deep. When we have nothing to want with all our heart and soul, nothing worth worshipping, nothing is sacred.

We need more female CDL pros IMO. According to Statista, about 1/3 of FPS gamers are female so why not require 1/3 of any CDL team to be female?
