@millie141414 @ShipleyWrites In my experience with the NHS, (international) agency staff quality is dreadful compared to the general ward teams. Importing cheaper services from abroad comes with lower quality and outcomes for patents, which isn't something that's clear to the government managerial class.

@ShipleyWrites My Carehome doesn’t sponsor visas but they use agency staff who are clearly international. They are lovely and are used a lot on days when staff don’t turn up. People must be clear how much care will cost

Having domestic food supply is critical for national security.
If you outsource your food production to other countries and you destroy the local food supply chain, so it cannot be easily spinned back up because all the skills are lost and there are no farmers left - you open yourself to being coerced and blackmailed by your food suppliers.
Keeping enough domestic food production to sustain the population even if the overseas supply is cut off form some reason is essential for national security.
Worth it even if it requires subsidies.

Farming on places like Dartmoor doesn't seem profitable. The farmers are paid subsidies by the government to farm there so it isn't really a business anymore.
Why not pay these farmers directly to be environmental rangers and to graze ponies and cows to benefit the wildlife.

The implication at this step in the original argument is that there are many horrors man faces that if god were all-powerful, all-good, and all-knowing, he would have removed. He has not, therefore he is not. Therefore, the analogy wants us to believe that destroying cancer is of the same moral calibre as letting a toddler gorge itself to death.

The implication is that god waving away the existence of cancer would be equivalent to allowing a toddler to gorge himself to the point of serious medical harm. Both are apparently non-obviously evil to the recipient. Has any priest explained the evil of curing cancer?
