Take the cattle off a Welsh hillside and picture what grows there instead. The campaigner always pictures wheat. A tidy golden field where the cow used to stand, feeding people directly, no greedy animal in the middle taking its cut. It is a lovely image. It has never once survived contact with an actual hill. Go and stand on the hill. The soil is a few inches deep over solid rock. The slope would post a tractor into the valley below. It rains for most of the year and the growing season is short, cold and over before it started. Roughly two thirds of British farmland is like this: not rich soil being selfishly hogged for cows, but ground that grows grass and nothing else, because grass evolved to survive there and the plough is a stranger who won't be staying. Drive one up a Brecon slope, into the peat and the wet, and you get an expensive hole and a story the village dines out on for a decade. And here is the bit that should embarrass them. The person insisting we grow crops up there has, without exception, never tried to grow so much as a window box. They have run the numbers on a hillside they would not climb in trainers, and concluded the sheep are doing it wrong. So take the animal away. Here is what actually arrives. Not wheat. Bracken, gorse and scrub, a hillside quietly closing over, the ground-nesting birds gone with the open grass, the whole lot drying into kindling for the next wildfire. And on the supermarket shelf, no gap at all. The beef you banned here just gets shipped in from a country that torched a forest to make the field. You didn't remove the cow. You exiled her six thousand miles, set fire to a rainforest to rehouse her, and changed the label so you could feel green about it. The audacity of calling that progress. The grass is already growing on that hill. It grows whether anyone approves or not. Either a ruminant turns it into food, topsoil and a living, or it grows, dies back, dries out, and waits for a spark. There was never a field of wheat. There was only ever the animal, or the waste.

In 1850, Frédéric Bastiat published his essay "Ce qu'on voit et ce qu'on ne voit pas," and in doing so handed you the sharpest tool you will ever own for dismantling economic nonsense. Picture the scene he paints. A shopkeeper's careless son smashes a pane of glass. The crowd gathers, clucks its tongue, and then a helpful bystander offers consolation: think of the glazier who now earns six francs. Think of the money circulating. Think of the boost to industry. If nobody ever broke a window, whatever would the glaziers do? You have heard this exact argument your entire life, dressed in nicer clothes. Bastiat's genius was to insist you count what you do not see. Yes, the glazier earns six francs. That much is visible. But the shopkeeper intended to buy new shoes, or a book, or to save the money and lend it out. That transaction never happens now. The glazier gains what the cobbler loses. Society is down one pane of glass and no richer for it. Destruction creates activity, never wealth. The lineage runs straight to Henry Hazlitt, who opened his great book "Economics in One Lesson" in 1946 with the broken window and built an entire treatise on the discipline of tracing consequences to everyone, not merely the man holding the six francs. Read that book once and you become immune to roughly ninety percent of what passes for economic commentary. Watch how governments love the smashed pane. After the September 11 attacks, credentialed economists appeared on television to explain that rebuilding would stimulate the economy. Paul Krugman wrote as much. Every war, every hurricane, every demolished neighborhood summons the same chorus: destruction is good for GDP. Of course it is good for the crude accounting fiction of GDP, which counts the glazier's six francs and stays silent about the shoes. Here is where the state reveals itself. It cannot create the six francs. It can only smash your window, hand the money to a favored glazier, and demand your gratitude for the employment. Taxation is the rock through the pane, laundered through legislation. Bastiat saw the whole racket in 1850. Your credentialed economists still cannot.

It takes a thousand years to build three centimetres of topsoil. We lose a football pitch of it every five seconds. A third of the world's farmable soil is already dead. The UN warned that if the stripping goes on, we have sixty harvests left. Iowa, the richest ground in America, has lost close to half its topsoil since 1850. Ploughed loose and sent down the Mississippi. Warming gets the summits and the placards. The soil that grows ninety-five percent of your food is washing away right now, and that is the one that starves you. Here is the part that stays off the stage. The deepest, blackest, most fertile ground on earth, the American prairie, the Russian steppe, the Ukrainian black earth that feeds the world, was built by one thing. Vast herds of grazing ruminants. Trampling, dunging, moving on. Tens of millions of bison, roots fifteen feet deep, packing carbon into the ground for ten thousand years. The plough switched that off. The cow, moved like the wild herd, switches it back on. Graze it right and the carbon sinks, the soil thickens, the rain soaks in instead of tearing the field away. The best machine ever built for saving the soil is the animal they want off your plate. A tractor cannot build soil. Fertiliser cannot build soil. Only the herd ever has. But healing the world's dirt means more cattle on grass, not fewer. So you will hear about the cow's burp right up until the last of the topsoil reaches the sea.

Over the past three decades, Labour and the Tories have imported tens of millions of people to Britain. They told us it was necessary for economic growth.  To pay for our pensions.  To do the jobs ‘Brits wouldn't do’. But the data tells a completely different story. 48% of social housing in London is headed by someone born overseas. This costs the taxpayer £3.6 BILLION a year in rent discounts alone. What's more, 35% of working age social housing tenants born overseas are unemployed - and yet still receive free accommodation in some of the most desirable postcodes on earth. Almost a quarter of housing in London is social housing. That includes 28% in Westminster, and 42% in Islington. Think of what we’ve lost. The careers, relationships, and families that never got off the ground, all because our political elite took housing that should have been available to Brits and handed it to foreign nationals instead. The British people have been made second-tier citizens in their own country. ENOUGH. Under a Reform government, foreign nationals living in social housing will fail our economic test and will be deported.

Joseph Stalin murdered more human beings than almost anyone in recorded history, and he did it with a clipboard and a five-year plan. Let me give you the numbers, because the numbers matter. The Holodomor, the man-made famine in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933, killed somewhere around 4 million people. Stalin engineered it. He confiscated the grain, sealed the borders so starving peasants couldn't leave, and let them die in the snow while the state exported wheat abroad. He collectivized agriculture, meaning he seized private farms and forced peasants onto giant state operations. The productive farmers, the ones who owned a cow or two and actually knew how to grow things, he branded "kulaks" and shipped to Siberia or shot. He destroyed his best producers on purpose. Then came the Great Terror of 1937 and 1938. Stalin's secret police executed roughly 700,000 people in about two years. Not battlefield deaths. Confessions extracted in basements, quotas handed down for how many "enemies" each region should find. Quotas. For arrests. Somebody in Moscow decided your town owed the state 200 traitors, and the local officers went and found 200, guilty or not. The whole thing rests on a simple lie: that a handful of men in a Kremlin office know how to run millions of lives better than those millions running their own. Stalin believed that lie hard enough to build a machine of corpses around it. Property rights aren't some dusty legal technicality. They're the thing standing between you and a bureaucrat deciding your grain belongs to the collective and your life doesn't matter. Stalin proved that 20 million dead is just a statistic to a central planner.
