Indie pub is a very respectable path and if it is what is best for your work, amazing! You get all the control. If Trad press is your goal, there are rules and expectations to follow that are part of that package. Both are valid. Choose the path that makes your heart sing.

@JackHAuthor @REstepLit Some people just aren't at the level needed yet. Spending time in the trenches helps by: a) writing a lot b) improving in the craft and learning at least enough humility to accept professional feedback c) learning the business of and what is required to successfully publish

@REstepLit I’ll just hop on and say Indie publishing is a grind! Definitely not for the weak like me. I’m 50% glad I did it, 50% not so much. It’s the marketing to get it pushed out that’s the hardest bit! Will definitely be back in the query trenches on book 2!

@REstepLit This is such great advice. Right now I'm Quering for traditional publishing... but I will have a plan B. I'm seeing all these romances on Netflix from novels... I write both novellas and screenplays... with a goal of this combo traditional publishing and Netflix.

@nicholewinterss @REstepLit It's important to remember if their books don't succeed, it's easier for you to write another book than it is for them to go bankrupt and then start another business. If they trust you enough to invest in you, they deserve the same trust and respect if you sign with them.

@nicholewinterss @REstepLit As another add on, most publishers WANT their authors involved in cover design without giving them final say. It is their investment. Again it's trust. If they aren't a big 5, you should trust they are trying to elevate you to that. If not...

@nicholewinterss @REstepLit As an add-on to this, if you dpn't trust your publisher to create a great cover, unless they are one of the big 5 or their imprints, you probably shouldn't be signing tbem. You have a lot riding reputationally. The have a lot ridong both on thier reputation AND financially.

@nicholewinterss @REstepLit No auccessful traditional publisher is gping to front money for a book that they may or may not ever recover, then give control over the biggest and most important marketing tool they have in influencing sales. It's poor business to do it.
