@Greenbackd It would have been unusual to declare a recession with unemployment in '22/'23 staying below 4%.
English

Astonishing that no recession was declared in '22/'23.

Yesterday I gave you the positive on unemployment. A counterargument: Leading Economic Indicators divided by Lagging Indicators has been plunging since Dec. 2021. Declines of this severity witness recessions. Make sure to review all of your metrics, optimistic and pessimistic!

@mananh29 100% agree. I've completely stopped using Instagram / Facebook and I don't miss either. The only Meta product I'm continuing to use is Messenger.
English

I've been completely off Instagram for a month now, and I don't miss it one bit. Life's good.

if there’s a social platform you just don’t enjoy posting on, don’t do it, no matter who tells you how valuable it is … you can tell when people are forcing it versus it naturally flowing, plus we should all be outside anyway

@DrDavidKass This is indeed an all time closing high for the A shares, but on March 28, 2022, the B shares closed at $359.57.

Berkshire Hathaway A ($541,000) and B ($353.81) at all-time closing highs. #Buffett $BRK.A $BRK.B

@CodifyBaseball Do we know the overall percentage of pitches with 2 strikes across all of MLB?

@Mr_MattB @_TheUglyMonster Deep Blue wasn't just a rebrand of Deep Thought. It was an evolutionary step forward in computer chess, immensely more powerful.
English

@Pete1729 @_TheUglyMonster Deep Thought was Deep Blue, that was just a rebrand
English

People forget that Kasparov actually beat Deep Blue the first time they played.

@Mr_MattB @_TheUglyMonster Kasparov beat Deep Thought once, then beat Deep Blue once, before losing the rematch to Deep Blue. But yeah, he beat IBM chess supercomputers twice.
English

@_TheUglyMonster First two times. The third match was the one Deep Blue won after which IBM refused a rematch and disassembled it.

@GianniDiMattia6 @amazonholder1 Yep, true on a yearly basis, but long term he's absolutely crushed it.

@HoleDeal A potential race to the bottom on pricing is a concern. Also, Verizon's debt continues to grow from building 5G infrastructure and acquiring new spectrum. At the current price, $vz does seem attractive though.

How many holes does a straw have?
Interesting @notsmartblog thought of the day.
English

@madmax @LachM @notsmartblog I believe it now becomes topologically equivalent to a double torus, which has two holes.
English

@Pete1729 @LachM @notsmartblog If you poke a hole in the side of the straw, how many holes does it now have?

@dgonginf @UniofAdelaide The Lingqiao + Dong teaching combination would indeed be top tier!

I have been co-lecturing a machine learning course @UniofAdelaide this semester, my first time teaching more than as a guest lecturer. The most joyful part is finding yourself can be really helpful and inspiring, with the reminiscent of all good teachers you experienced. 😁

@CLEinBNE Nice one Tim! I got my second dose of Pfizer today also 😀
English

@chess24com As a "white to play & win", this is obvious. Easy to miss such tactics during a game though.

What a miss from the Icelandic World Cup Qualifier! White to play & win, with over an hour on the clock: chess24.com/en/watch/live-…

@Smerity As another Australian on the US West Coast, also awake at 3:16am, I fully relate to this.

@Kimjobil @theworldchess Bobby Fischer was a polarizing figure though. He wasn't universally loved like Jordan.

@BradleyDSchultz Nice summary. If Berkshire continues to remain undervalued for a while, buybacks will give them an easy way to deploy their excess $100B of cash.
English

Although I really like microcaps & nanocaps, I also really like $BRK (& not a bad match in a portfolio).
I'm really hoping $BRK bought back at least as much stock in Q4 as Q3. The huge cash pile is my biggest concern with $BRK given Fed money printing.
