Fellow #Notts folk - just saw this 1984 pic of @IronMaiden in @MetalHammer magazine, & immediately thought "That place looks familiar!" Duly read the caption - turns out it was taken in #Nottingham! Can't put my finger on exactly where though. Anyone able to pinpoint? #IronMaiden

English

@mrrichfisher @IronMaiden @MetalHammer Pretty sure it's St Jame's Street, just off Standard Hill. Think they were on the way to the Robin Hood Statue for the obligatory photo.

@forestfocuspod @gergmitch @ColinMurray The song must have been adopted very early on as Mull of Kintyre was released in Nov '77 & the Forest Fans are heard singing the City Ground version as the Paper Lace/Forest squad song We've Got The Whole World In Our Hands fades out. This was released Feb '78 so quickly popular.

Our own @gergmitch will on 5 Live with @ColinMurray at 10.30am discussing Mull of Kintyre, it’s origins and importance. #nffc bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/li…

#nottingham folks was this building on Lower Parliament St corner of Heathcoat St a pub? Which? And what about round the corner on East Street? Any clues? #architecture #artdeco

@petebrooksbank @dnh2209 @ronmanagernottm You've got the right location, it was the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation (now part of Aviva). Located on the corner of Milton St. & Trinity Square. Nottm branch est'd. 1907.

English

@MagnaAulae @EgorTheRed @ronmanagernottm Good spot, yeah, with that release date, it must be 1934 then and the Ashes Test is far more likely as you say.
English

@PeteForrest7 @EgorTheRed @ronmanagernottm Wikipedia gives the film's release date as 6 October 1933.
Although Notts played Surrey again over Whit weekend 1934, isn't the 1st Test a more likely occasion for the photo?
English

@EgorTheRed @MagnaAulae @ronmanagernottm player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watc…
I'm not certain but I've always suspected that his was the crowds returning from the 1933 Notts v Surrey match on Whit Bank Holiday with a crowd of 20,000 in attendance.
English

@PeteForrest7 @MagnaAulae @ronmanagernottm Well John Barrymore is starring in Night Flight at the cinema and that wasn't released until 1933
English

@MagnaAulae @ronmanagernottm Another photo of thePlaza and the now widened Bridge; 1933 I believe and the crowd is from the cricket.

English

@ronmanagernottm So what is the cinema? The Cinema Treasures website says the Grove on Kirkwhite Street didn’t open until 1938 and there is nothing else west of Arkwright Street until the Imperial Picture House on Wilford Road which seems too far way

The bizarre situation with Adam Delimkhanov appears to be connected to a number of outcries in Z-channels today complaining about Russian commanders concentrating infantry near the frontline. The reports seem to suggest that a HIMARS arrived at a location near Kreminna recently, killing hundreds of Russians preparing for an assault against Ukrainian positions, and Delimkhanov could be among the wounded.
Here are some excerpts from Russian channels:
Starshe Eddy, 8:46AM:
"If by the middle of the second year of the war there are commanders who take columns to the front and concentrate all personnel in one big pile, and wait for the enemy artillery to strike, then such commanders must be shot before in front of the formation, even if they are colonels or even generals."
Crybar, 8:52AM:
"It was near Kremennaya, a tragic incident occurred in one of the divisions that were about to go on the offensive.
For two hours people stood in a crowd in one place and waited for the division commander to say his motivating speech.
But instead of him, the HIMARS MLRS and enemy artillery had their say.
In the South Donetsk direction, in a few days there were fewer casualties in the battles than from the criminal stupidity of the division commander."
Dva Mayora, 9:15AM
"B*tch, you shouldn't stay in a column for two hours in one place! What are you doing, father commanders? You are commanding people!
Will they prosecute bloggers again instead of the degenerates with high ranks?
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have no merit in this war. We are at war with our own stupidity and lack of care, mixed up with positive reports."
Voyenniy Osvedomitel, 9:23AM:
"Let's add that the people responsible for this have already managed to “become famous” in other areas more than once. And not only the division commander but also his immediate superior.
However, instead of bearing responsibility, comrades degenerals continued to selflessly occupy key army positions.
The result was not long in coming. Should we expect punishment for them this time, or will it all happen again? For us, this question is, alas, rhetorical."
Some seem to point at a general related to the infamous 155th Banzai Marine Brigade which was demolished in Pavlivka last November, as the culprit of the incident. The general's name is Sukhrab Akhmedov.
Regardless of any involvement of Delimkhanov in the incident, the strike could be another great victory for Ukrainians.

@endlessfuntimes @MagnaAulae @a26bs4wdf5 @Nottinghasm Pretty sure the large building to the right of St Mary's Church is Pierrepont House which was located on Stoney St. A closer artists view from 1710.

English

@MagnaAulae @a26bs4wdf5 @Nottinghasm Looking at the current map it’s not something that’s here now so maybe that’s Lace Market area prior to the lace markets existence of course!!

@BrianWITGuy @Trotter_Tolkien @TolkienGuide @JoelMerriner Not a Harper Collins edition, but Running Press's The Brothers Hildebrandt, Their Tolkien Art magnetic postcard book is a nice accompaniment to the series.

English

@BrianWITGuy @Trotter_Tolkien @TolkienGuide @JoelMerriner It's as you suggest, a combination of Tolkien's Middle-Earth and Tolkien's Dragons & Monsters.

English

Finally managed to pick up a cheap copy of #LOTR postcard book. Think that's them all apart from Middle-Earth & Monsters but is that just a combination of 2 books or different artwork @Trotter_Tolkien @TolkienGuide ? @JoelMerriner #Tolkien #THEHOBBIT

@TeawithTolkien Depending on the version of Tolkien's writings, the Blue Wizards could very well make an entrance in the SA. Tolkien at some point said they went into the E & failed in their task, perhaps starting Sauron cults, could these be the malevolent looking white/blonde haired characters

@TeawithTolkien Admittedly he doesn't look too elven but it would make more sense that this is a resurrected Glorfindel who was sent back to ME by the Valar in the SA, Not sure why in a meteor unless it is after the downfall of Numenor and the reshaping of the world making it impossible by sea.

This was dedicated to the poet Philip James Bailey who lived in a house on this site, probably stolen like quite a few others unfortunately. Not sure who, if anyone maintains them. @NottmCityOfLit may be interested it has sadly disappeared.
