I almost hesitate to promote this, because it wasn't really intended to be a piece. I just sort of sat down and it came out. Maybe someone else out there has the same type of day today, and it'll speak to them. realclearpolitics.com/articles/2026/…

@LPDonovan @CookOut They're all good. But as a peanut butter fan, I have particular fondness for Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Fudge. The Peach Cobbler is good, too, with a nice balance of cobbler dough and peachiness.

Breaking News: The Supreme Court appears poised to reject a Mississippi state law on late-arriving mail-in ballots, a decision that could upend voting and have sweeping consequences in the midterm elections. nyti.ms/4bZrUaC

@MuseZack In the 1958 noir, The Lineup (worth watching, great SF locations) the final shoot-out is on the yet-to-be completed Embarcadero Freeway. Good use of the ugly thing.

The original Philip K. Dick novel of Man in the High Castle has a funny sequence where the cultured Japanese consul from Axis-occupied San Francisco briefly goes to our world and is horrified by the ugly sight of the Embarcadero Freeway. Funny that it's gone in this world too.
RetroBayArea@RetroBayArea

This is what it was like to drive on the Embarcadero Freeway in 1985. There was also a little variety in the billboards. Today, every single billboard in San Francisco exists to force AI down our throats.

I'm on a quest to find every good restaurant in San Francisco. Give me your top 3 to 5 recommendations! Anything is good, from lunch cafes and bakeries to fine dining. No East Bay, no Peninsula...just San Francisco!!

Andrew Schulz: “I didn’t know that this was possible to happen in the United States of America. What we’ve seen ICE doing entering homes without warrants, it’s unconstitutional. When you’re willing to shred the Constitution to preserve your ideas of what should happen, it is incredibly un-American. I just think it’s an important thing to speak out against, I think it’s horrific”

This is a great book and, mostly for the better, barely about Caesar. It’s about early egalitarian movements and how Roman elites violently blocked redistribution, justifying it as a defense of republican order. Elites haven’t changed much. RIP Michael Parenti.

It's sort of crazy that Lucretia Garfield died in California with Los Angeles roughly the size of present day Louisville, KY, when CA wasn't even a US territory until she was almost 16.

Am I the oracle of Orkin?… The rats of Los Angeles have much to celebrate this week. Below is the poem I contributed to a new high school guide to the flora and fauna of the LA River, illustrated by student Katie Sakamoto.

The rats are going to Hollywood. Los Angeles has claimed the top spot on Orkin’s Top 50 Rattiest Cities list, ending Chicago’s decade-long reign. The city’s warm climate, dense neighborhoods, and abundant food sources make it ideal for rodents, the pest control company says. yahoo.com/news/articles/…
