@nishanne_jacob @HsiaoMarvin This is a tricky issue - but one option night be to have a more generic start to Med school (graduate entry/pre-med) with a “qualifier” built in. Would also assist students themselves who really have no idea what they’re letting themselves in for.
English

@PeterRaubs @HsiaoMarvin Entry criteria to Med School include Physical Science, Maths and English performance but where is critical thinking or resilience assessed at school to serve as an entry criteria? Such a challenge to find broad criteria that are valid, objective and equitable
English

Had an interesting discussion with my colleagues today. Sure in 2023, the curriculum should focus on critical thinking and principles. Less facts.

@HsiaoMarvin Good idea - I was amazed at how it hallucinates references.
And your students are already using it - every single one is.

I have this idea of setting an assignment for trainees that makes them use #ChatGPT to research a virology topic, as an exercise to learn its capabilities and limitations.
Good idea or bad idea?

@ygpillay Prioritisation of services remains critical ( and yes - preventative >>> curative care)
English

@ygpillay Is there data on that? An equally likely scenario ( that has some data in well resourced systems) is that need for specialised care and hospitals increases when primary care services improve.
English

Strengthening PHC, community based case & ambulatory care will reduce the need for hospitals - need to change the budgeting

This simple but powerful figure is what animates so much of my work. The relationship between melanoma incidence and mortality across time. I really want to fully understand this epidemiologic phenomenon! Long way since my start funded by @ARCS_Atlanta

OR...is this just as has been predicted for many years now because of an unsustainable trajectory of healthcare spending..driven by the market forces and increasing inequality in the world we live in?
