Last night I had the pleasure of presenting to the MSc students at Setanta College - a brilliant group of emerging minds in sport and performance. A huge thank you to Hanno Van Vuuren for the kind invitation and warm welcome. Much of the first half of this year has been devoted to public speaking and coach education, and this session felt like a culmination of that journey. I shared elements from the final chapter of my doctoral thesis, “Centre of the Field, Edge of Myself: Reimagining the Youth Sport Experience” - a deeply personal exploration of coaching, identity, and the athlete’s developmental journey. We also spoke about: 🧠 The coaching process for maximising skill acquisition in youth rugby players 📈 Growth and maturation principles for youth sport academies and clubs Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of coaches and practitioners.

The University of Galway Sports Unit hosted the Biological Maturation Symposium last week. We welcomed an Erasmus group and experienced professionals from Irish sporting organisations, including the Football Association of Ireland , GAA and Connacht Rugby. @DeasunO @uniofgalway
